We booked Blu Rooms in May based on a Sunday Times article and enjoyed our stay there. The location directly overlooking the caldera is fantastic with views out to Fira, the volcano and onto Oia as well as being able to enjoy the cruise ship and ferry traffic.
The rooms are relatively basic but definitely good value for the room rate. The rooms are clean, with separate shower/WC, firm mattresses and comfortable pillows with aircon, fridge and large modern TV (which we didn't switch on). The fridge did seem rather noisy during the night.
Our room had a separate small terrace area with table and chairs though other rooms having chairs just outside their doors, still with the view though.
One minor negative is that the pool is not on the property and is a 5 min walk away down the hill. Saying that though the pool has an even better view, if that's possible, and was clean and well maintained.
The family running the business were very friendly and helpful and the kids travelling with us enjoyed the housekeeper's playful folding of the towels each day. The daily breakfast was tasty, though it definitely focused on the sweet tooth! There is also a bar service each evening serving a basic range of drinks.
Blu Room's charm of being relaxing and away from the main tourist areas obviously means that you need to be mobile to go to dinner. It is probably a 15-20 min walk to tavernas in Akrotiri but you would need a good torch to find your way back to Blu. With children in our party we therefore drove to dinner each evening (to Akrotiri, the beach area and then towards the lighthouse).
There is parking onsite or across the road on waste land.
If you want a place away from the crowds with great views, friendly service and good value, then Blu Rooms is a must!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a separate terrace/balcony area

Anyone thinking of coming to Santorini should stay here, it is located away from the busy and touristy Fira. Yes you'll need a car or a ATV to get around the island but it is cheap and Vassilis the host will happily organise for you. The hotel itself is on the caldera it has the best view of the whole island, you have to see it to believe it. There are beautiful restaurants around our favs were Nicholas Cave and the fish restaurant near the lighthouse. The hotel is clean, safe and every room has a perfect view of the caldera. The closest beach is caldera beach which is very clean. Last but not least the family that run his hotel are soooo lovely, Vassilis is fantastic he helped with everything we needed. We will miss Blu but will return soon.

If your looking for a quiet relaxing place to stay pick this place. The views are amazing and the family that run it are soo helpful and friendly. The pool is lovely and quiet and we were there in peak holiday times but never had to worry about getting a sun lounger. Only down side is it's in a slightly remote area but as we only stayed for 3 nights it wasn't a problem. Wish I could go back now!

If you are looking for a spectacular view over the Santorini caldera and have peace and quiet in mind - this is the place to be.
Blu Rooms is a small family-run hotel on the edge of the cliffs near Akrotiri run by Vassilis and his family who are exceptionally helpful. Although shower and WC room is small it is larger than many small London hotels and is perfectly adequate. The bedroom had a kingsize bed with spotless bedding. The balcony location was just superb as was the swimming pool close by along the cliff.
The Akrotiri ruins nearby are amazing and certainly worth a visit. The few tavernas in Akrotiri serve excellent traditional food and the keftedes in the one opposite the bus-stop are truly delicious.

Room Tip: Number 3 has great views

This place overlooks the Caldera and what a fantastic place to have a bite to eat, drink and chill on a hot day. We were not rushed and enjoyed a super cold coffee on a pleasant covered terrace in peace. Situated on a tight bend there are places to park opposite so be careful of passing traffic and slipper ground under foot. Pop in here after or before going to the light house. I am sure they also have rooms but did not enquire about these.
