Center Parcs De Kempervennen
Ranked #1 of 1 Hotels in Westerhoven
Reviewed 7 August 2008

This was our 2nd year running at Kempervennen Center Parcs & once again we had a brilliant time. 5 of us went - myself, my husband and our 3 children (ranging in age from 10 mths to 11 years), during the Feb half term holiday.

We stayed mid-week in a 3 bed Deluxe villa, situated by the lake. The accommodation was clean and well maintained and the extra toilet was appreciated.

To get the most out of the site it is advisable to hire bikes from the on-site shop. We were blessed with fantastic weather (yep in February!) and were out cycling each day.

Myself & the older 2 children went to ski school each morning, which was not only brilliant fun, but so cheap! £100 for all of us to have 4 days of 1 hr lessons (including all equipment & snowsuits).

The pool facilities are great & a big hit with the kids. The restaurants are good, but limited in choice if you are vegetarian (as we are). The on site supermarket catered sufficently for us. Unlike the UK, smoking was permitted in the public areas, which wasn't great, but not a huge issue.

Have recommended this parc to loads of friends. We are just about to book again for 2009.

Back to De kempervennen in August 2007.
We booked thorugh www.CenterParcs.com direct (cheaper than brochures) - which is easy for booking accommodation, food, ski and bikes but you have to phone or email 2 weeks or so prior to arrange the children's 'Wannabe' play activities and mini bus transfers from Eindhoven train station to CenterParcs.

Rather than the ferry crossing, this time we flew from Manchester to Amsterdam (jet2.com £250 for a family of 4 return-booked 8 months prior) then took the train from Schipol Airport to Eindhoven (18 euro per adult one way, 2 euro for 6yr old, free for 3 year old) these tickets were bought with ease at the Amsterdam Schipol airport train station. Once at Eindhoven train station (also a bus station) we made our way to the nearest exit and waited for the minibus taxi from CenterParcs which we had paid for via paypal (apx£15) to CP. After waiting a bit we had an explore and discoverd another exit (eg one North one South) so had to ask which to wait at. This took several different members of staff until we were confident in the response. The CenterParcs minibus arrived on time, but was completely unmarked - the driver came out and was really helpful and did look for other passengers booked on but to no avail. This service was also used on our return (but no stress as to where to meet as this was at Reception). The journey was about 20 minutes max - I think next time we would use a taxi so that we didn't have to wait the hour or so for the mini bus.

Once at CP and checked in, our luggage was dropped off at Reception and delivered by trailer to our Villa. The only time the luggage was difficult was on/off the train with 2 kids, 2 cases and 4 sets of hand luggage. We chose the same accommodation as our previous trip in 2005 and this was good although not quite as good condition as before but nothing major.

We went for the half board option which was breakfast and tea each day at the Market Place only (or similar name- it was 7 months ago!). The food available for both was super - we do not eat 'anything' but were very happy with the selection provided. You could have as much as you wanted - service was a buffet style except for drinks in the evening which were waitress served and had to be paid for (apx 10 euros per day for 1 lager and 3 soft drinks). Tea, coffee and fruit juices were included at breakfast . The resturant of course got over familiar to us with us visiting it twice a day - but we were much happier not worrying about budgeting or the children choosing something adventurous and then not eating it. Here they could try what they wanted and then choose something else if they didn't take to it. We are not saying the food was fine cuisine, but it was good family fare.
The resaurant got rather noisy at times and remember that the no smoking laws don't carry in Holland - good news for some but not for others I guess. There are non smoking areas in the restaurant.

My 6 year old had ski lessons at the Montanna Snow Centre and thoroughly enjoyed these - he didn't complain about a language problem and all our contact with staff was fine in English.

Both children did 3 activities with the children's club, called 'Wannabe a...', they did : painter, farmer and red-indian. These were super; the painter session had the kids dressed up in white coats and berets, each had an eisel and a canvas which they painted on and brought home. The farmer session meant a trip to the farm feeding the animals and talking to the resident farmer, the children wore farmers overalls and a red spotty hanky around their necks. The Indian session took the children to a camp inside the park (for this activity especially - not open to all) which had huge tepees and totem poles - the kids dressed up and had their faces painted. Each session was about 5euro per child. Each session was about 1hr+half and broke up the day nicely - book in advance via email 2 weeks before arrival (when timetables are released) as they book up quickly.
Husband did sky walk activity and I had a try of the archery.
Only regret is not going for 2 weeks, although I really would have been bored with the food/place to eat - perhaps we could have done 1wk half board, 1 wk self catered.
We still think this is a fantastic CenterParcs - the swimming, the flat landscape makes easy terrain for young cyclists, the snow centre and the excellent English speaking staff - we will be returning.
