Description: Xasomeri means “a waste of time” in Greek. It is in the heart of the old neighbourhood of Vamos,a small but exceptional venue, full of surprises! The cuisine is plentiful and one of the tastiest in all of Apokoronas. The menu is often changing, but it’s based on the Mediterranean cuisine. The sweets are handmade, and the raki is made from the elegant grape varietals “malvazia” and “moschato".

We walked to Vamos from Gavalochori and finally located this recommended taverna. It was well worth it. Quirky and interesting, beautiful food lovingly prepared and presented. A little gem.

Delightful friendly restaurant in a lovely traditional setting, usually very busy. unusually, you have to fill in a menu sheet which I thought was quite good. Plenty of choices and there were many dishes different from the taverna 'norm'. On the whole the food was good but the chips, which are normally the best in the world in Crete were thin and swimming in oil. There is an art gallery here too and live music on certain evenings.

Wonderful produce beautifully prepared and cooked. Cretan classics with a slight difference, extremely fresh and full flavoured, excellent use of herbs and seasoning. We really enjoyed the very aromatic baked goat, and the stuffed onions were delicious as was the fennel pie. Helpful friendly service from Dmitri, thanks for a great meal.

This little restaurant/cafe, set in the back streets of Vamos is also an arts centre, displaying local artists work and hosting film shows on occasion, musical evenings and monthly craft fairs. The food is excellent and the staff friendly and welcoming
