The place it's amazing ,peaceful and relaxing. The food is soooo good. The staff is kind and nice . The room we had,it was wonderful... looking on the garden. In the morning we had squirrels and birds outside the window saing good morning! !!!! We will surely come back and we will suggest San Clemente to our friends!!!!! Thank you

We stayed 2 nights as a family with our 2 early teen boys. Our family room was on the small side for the 4 of us, boys were in bunk beds which were just about ok at this age. All very clean and bathroom good. The hotel is a nice looking, old building and is very pleasantly set in large grounds. The inside does not reflect the historical nature and mostly looks very modernised and lacking character. The restaurant is not a thing of beauty but big enough and seemed busy when we were there. Buffet dinner was fine, some dishes were good e.g. Antipasti, salads, puddings, but the main course was very average with tough, cold chicken or steak. Breakfast was good - continental with no hot food.
The hotel offers an excellent range of activities - pool table, table tennis, table football, disc golf, large swimming pool and toddler pool, lots of sunbeds. Tennis courts looked good (we didn't use them) but hire + raquets + balls would have made it very expensive.
There were a lot of signs around the place about what you could do when and staff were mixed - mostly very helpful but some on reception were a bit officious and not so friendly. Overall feeling was of a decent hotel but lacking in warmth and character.
There is a train just next to the hotel that goes to Perugia several times a day for €1.5. A taxi costs about €35 one way and takes about 20 mins.

When you arrive you realise just how big this hotel is. The ground round the hotel are very big and contain tennis courts and a swimming pool. Location is very quiet. The outside of the hotel is stunning as is the inside.
The rooms however is the reason why this is not a 5* hotel. The rooms are old, bathroom is older, airco is loud and smelly. In our bathroom just about everything was loose: from bare of the shower curtain to both towel racks. When we first entered our room it smelled heavily of cigarette smoke, so they gave us another room and cleaned the old one for the next day. Next morning we checked out the 'cleaned' room and yes the smell was gone. But after 10 minutes of airco that smell was back. I cleaned the airco filters myself, they were not cleaned for a long long time. Pay attention to the step going into the bathroom, quite dangerous at night.
Breakfast is simple, every day exactly the same. No eggs or bacon. Coffee, milk and yoghurt and all juices come from machines. So no decent cappuchino in the morning, shame.
Service was ok and friendly.
With some investmest this could be a leading 5* hotel, really a shame.

Stayed here for a week in June and we wished we could stay longer! This hotel is situated in extensive beautifully maintained grounds and is a 25 minute drive from Perugia airport. A car is necessary as the hotel is not close to any amenities. The reception staff were friendly and helpful and the room we stayed in on the second floor had a superb view over the grounds and was a good size, although a little short of wardrobe space. Also a fairly large and spotless bathroom also with a good view. We had not intended to eat in the hotel so only booked for B&B, but having enjoyed dinner on one occasion we dined there on four more occasions. Breakfast was also more than adequate, although nothing hot. The pool area has ample sunloungers and there is a small café serving drinks and snacks. Overall this was an extremely pleasant experience and I would certainly recommend this hotel and will certainly return.

Room Tip: Second floor overlooking the grounds has good views.

It was my husband and I second visit to the Relais. We previously visited pre-child and rebooked with trepidation as 20 years can have an impact on a place and also spoil a great memory. As it was we needn't have worried. The hotel itself is still beautiful and in great condition. It, and the guests, are cared for by a great team, some of whom are quite mature and could have been around on our first visit.
Dining has improved, in that they have added a fixed price buffet to the a la care option. The buffet was excellent, giving the option for anti-pasti, primo, secondo, contorni and dolce for €23, which, given the quality was excellent. Wines include the local gem from Montefalco at good prices.
The rooms are not huge but one imagines, working with an old monastery there are limitations. They are well appointed, clean and comfortable. The advantage of the thick walls and shutters is that one can make the room cool without aircon so sleeping is lovely.
I took walks around the local lanes, my husband cycled, our daughter spent a lot of time tanning and using poolside wifi. The train still stops at the hotel allowing one to get into beautiful Perugia. As a base for exploring Umbria it is super, we took in Gubbio, Assisi, Lake Trasemeno, Perugia and of course Montefalco, all accessible in less than one hour.
So we had a great time, the hotel was lovely and the staff so friendly and helpful.
