I ordered two meals and the waiter brought one. When challenged him, he suggested we share. The meal was cold. I have eaten here before and normally it was good. It's seldom open and that one negative experience really turned me off. I love the location but don't know if I will visit again.

We had dinner here in Shipmans for both nights of our stay, as well as breakfast...the prime rib was delicious, as was the seafood platter minus the whitefish which was overcooked and very dry. The next night saw three of our party order the seared duck breast with mushroom wine sauce over risotto; I had the seafood fettucini -- very good food. Desserts were also delicious. All of us were very happy with our meals. We had a nice table on the closed in porch overlooking the water which added to the ambience of the evening. I found our waiter for the first evening to be lacking in attention to our table of ten....we constantly had to ask for water, drinks, etc...the waiter we had the second night was better. Both could use a course in knowing about wines and how to pour and taste. Breakfast in each instance was a buffet - scrambled eggs which from my point of view could have been cooked a bit more; very crisp bacon, sausage and ham, good home fries along with fresh fruit salad, yogurt, and a variety of cold cereals and a selection of juice and milk. All in all very good tasting and good value. We found the service at breakfast to be more consistent.

Our company stopped in for morning brunch, having reserved with an accurate head count. They constantly ran out of food, first ham, sausage and home fries. Then French toast. I finally got French toast and they had run out of syrup. Then they ran out of plates, so we just ate off our dirty plates. They were very slow to bring around coffee. Unfortunately, our company boked them for supper as well. They had sufficient food this time, but the prime rib roast was a blob of fat and the dessert was stale. I had lemon cake but the lemon flavor had long since departed. The serving staff seemed to find us an inconvenience. To be fair, perhaps if they only have 5 or six guests, they can handle it, but I would recommend a larger party go elsewhere.

We were staying at the Glen house resort on a golf stay and play package. Rather than drive into Gananoque we tried the bar area and sat inside overlooking the river and pool. There is a small outdoor patio but it was full and busy.

We both had the "smugglers burgers" one with fries the other with salad. They were very good and "Lou" who took care of us did a great job, although as it became busier so did he ... Assorted beer and wine selection.

We had a nice buffet breakfast the next morning in the dining room area which was included in our stay and play rate, before we went across the street to the golf course.
