My wife I and returned here for the first time in over 3 months for diner. The evening didn't start well as they had lost our reservation but no fuss was made and we were seated at the time we had asked. The starters were good my wife had the mushrooms and I the fish cakes. The only issue was with the mains which we both ordered steak, and both medium rare. They came medium to well done and with no sauce. The waiter agreed took them back and replaced. The new steaks were perfect. In all good food and well priced, just need to iron out those last small issues to be almost perfect.

We chanced upon this hotel early last friday morning on our way to Chipping Norton, we had set off at 6-30am from home so by the time we got here we were in need of breakfast. We arrived as the hotel was busy with guests paying and leaving but we were quickly shown into the dinning room and a table was set. We had a full english breakfast and it was good just what we needed. The waitress was very pleasant and helpful.

We stayed here with friends on a special weekend one night dinner, bed and breakfast deal which was, on the whole, excellent value. First impressions overall were good. The staff, without exception were cheerful, helpful and eager to please.
Our room (8) was actually more of a suite with a separate sitting area containing a second television. The room was pleasantly decorated but there was a gaping gap around the window causing a chill breeze. Having said that, the heating was very efficient but the bathroom was cold and also quite small.
The bar area is pleasant and the staff went out of their way to ensure that we had our table of choice in the restaurant. The food, however, obtained mixed reviews among our party. On the plus side, the liver was felt to have been cooked to perfection (something not always easy to achieve) and the starter of Portobello mushrooms also went down well. The fishcakes however seemed to consist almost entirely of potato with little fish in evidence, the vegetarian tatin was considered bland and the fillet steak was almost inedible - tough to put it mildly! To be fair, Johnny, the manager went out of his way to make amends when he heard these adverse criticisms and the sweets on the whole were good. Breakfast the following morning was excellent. The smoked (undyed) haddock was terrific as were the perfectly poached eggs and Kim, the waitress, looked after us superbly.
This hotel is situated in a picturesque hamlet within easy reach of Oxford and the Cotswolds and therefore makes an ideal base. It could be fantastic and all credit to Johnny who appears to be a very 'hands on' manager and his excellent team. However, the cuisine could certainly be improved upon and some double glazing (or at the very least, minor repairs to the windows) would be appreciated!

Superb lunch, great restaurant, lovely staff. We had 2 courses for £18 or 3 for £23 and we were all delighted. I like to see a small menu done well! 2 of us had whitebait and 1 prawn cocktail followed by 4 roast beef and all the trimmings( gravy was delicious we had 2 extra boats! And Mustard made from powder-always a winner! )And warm chocolate brownie (heaven) and black cherry cheesecake with amaretto. The food drinks crockery cutlery linen napkins and decor are all quality, I'm staggered that it wasn't packed to the gunnels-feel really puzzled about that. Come on banbury folks it's not far to travel it's in the very pretty village of aynho and it needs supportingThank you!

Bland food disguised by piping hot chips . Everything was tasteless no flavour. Ask for fillet steak medium well done . Came to table still alive gristle, fat and cold. Not a good steak at all . Best part was starters ! It all very much reminded me of a little chef in the rural beautiful Ayno. Such a shame even the restaurant was cold and very much like a conservatory patio. No atmosphere all regulars that praise it to the heavens ! Time in between courses far too long . I did enjoy the head waitress she reminded me of my school dinner lady. Not sure of the accommodation or breakfast so can't comment... Avoid at all costs if you want a traditional Gastro pub food you will be disappointed. And at £53 pounds for two half pints and two starters and mains at the quality of food is just not expectable. Sadly will not be returning :(
