It's a steep walk up to the castle (you can drive but the roads are narrow), it was closed when we got there, so was the church, there's a nice cafe near the top and the views from the top are lovely, but can't really comment about the castle except to say check the opening times before going.

We popped into the village for a look around as we were spending the weekend nearby. The village looks impressive from afar, with the caste at the top, as you would expect, and the reservoir down below.
There's not a great deal to see in the village and you need strong legs to walk up to the castle, but once there, there are some great views of the nearby countryside.

A beautiful location. Quite small as castles go, but lovely views, a peaceful location and a nice place to rest after the long trek up the hill.

The castle, with the parish church outside, dominates the hill on which the beautiful town of Iznajar is built. The restoration of the castle took an immense amount of time to accomplish, but it repays a visit. Not perhaps for the castle itself; apart from a few rooms, some battlements and a cistern, there is not a great deal to be seen, but the view from the towers overlooking the lake are spectacular and really worth seeing. There is also a slide show giving the history of the castle. This is in Spanish with subtitles in English that may cause amusement as they were clearly done using an internet translator.
In summer, there are occasional concerts in the evening in the central courtyard of the castle. These can be wonderful; the acoustic is good and the setting sheer magic.
