Warm and friendly place

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 3 Jul 2021via mobile
We spent 3 nights here in the heart of the village of Clun. Our room was spacious and clean and our hosts couldn’t have done more to make us welcome. The meals we had at this pub, including breakfast were excellent and the service was exemplary. Thank you all at the White Horse.

Welcoming staff and landlord made us feel very at home whilst still observing the Covid regulations. Nice meals served with a decent pint and nice white wine. If we are in the area again we'll definitely visit this pub, we enjoyed our meal here very much.

Room tip: We didn't stay at the hotel, we only had meals here.

Spotless room, friendly staff and excellent food! What more do you need?
I don’t drink but they make their own beer here and I’m told it’s very good.
Comfy bed and a room that I could get nice and cool at night

Warm, friendly welcome. Lovely room - ear plugs provided but we did not need them.
Fairly typical pub food and clean, comfortable accommodation in a beautiful area - we would definitely recommend for a short stay.

We stayed at the White Horse for four nights and found it overall a good experience. The owner Jack and the staff - in particular a breakfast lady whose name we never found out and a waiter called Steven - delivered good service and we could not fault the food, be it dinner or breakfast.
The pub itself has a beer garden and boasts a plank and muntin wall in one of the dining rooms. Drinkers and diners mix happily.

One word of warning though if you are considering staying overnight : the pub is in a noisy location!! Hence the ear plugs provided in the rooms. Clun is totally unsuitable for the heavy lorries passing through nonetheless ; opposite our room was the Spar shop and unloading took place frequently. A local farm food supplier also contributed much to the noise level.

None of this is the White Horse's Inn fault; but if you are looking for a quiet pub stay - do not choose this pub. If however you are looking for a tasty meal of good value and are planning to stay not minding the hussle and bustle - then we can recommend this pub. One request though: our room (no 2) - very clean and a good size and comfy bed! - did not contain a full length mirror or a cupboard ; guests may appreciate at least some clothes hangers and could you add a such mirror? 😊

Thank you for you comments and the chats during your stay. Please let me know what the restaurant was like you had on the night after your visit.
As a member of the parish council we are trying to work with the county council to put restrictions in on the road to limit the number and frequency of these HGVs that come through Clun. We are victims of a global economy, twenty years ago my customers and I could play cricket out in the square, but now the traffic is too much. We hope a knock on effect of this is that trucks that need to come here are able to visit at more sociable times of day.
the room you stayed in was a lockdown project of ours and we appreciate the feedback. Full length mirrors and another cupboard shall be available for your next visit.

I arrived early evening and was given a very warm welcome by the landlord . This is just the sort of pub but I look for off the beaten track and cosy.
Room was absolutely lovely spotlessly clean and ample tea and coffee with fresh milk provided at the bar in a glass milk bottle.
I took my pampered pooch with me and Although they didn’t know I was taking him there was a little box with dog bowls a towel and placemat, very much appreciated.
The pub was a typical old-fashioned country pub with lots of friendly guests inside who all spoke to me when I came down to the bar later.
Value for money fantastic would love to come back here for more great hospitality great food and welcoming locals.
Fantastic walks around this little village with a couple of quirky coffee shops and antique shops.
