Peace and quiet.

Slept with the window open. No radio, TV, WiFi, newspapers, commercial noise. Just the birds, fresh air, hills, fields and woods and a sense of privilege. Made friends in the dorm and small kitchen. Local circular walks maps in the lounge (5.5 miles). Two decent pubs in the nearby village with real ale and a well equipped Spar. £12 by taxi (15 minutes) from Craven Arms Railway Station (Arms Cars: 01588 672 734). Also limited £5 bus service (takes one hour) from Ludlow or the next stop, Craven Arms but only Monday and Friday. Every other Tuesday there is a bus from Craven Arms to Clun but timings difficult. Taxi is best.

We booked the YHA Clun Mill for private hire for my husband's 50th birthday. Six couples attended and we had a great weekend.
Negatives: lack of plug sockets downstairs to charge phones. Kitchen was 1/2 way through a renovation so there was a lovely new induction hob but no induction pans to use. Sofas need replacing, very wobbly legs on them all.
Positives - fabulous location for walking. Clean. Plenty of showers/loos, scenic and fairly comfy beds. Really friendly neighbours.
Would definitely hire again for a occasion in the future.

My first stop on my tour of Wales and the Borders after riding from North Wales, through Oswestry, to Stipperstones, Bishops Castle and on to Clun

YHA Clun is an onld mill and still has some of the works on displa. THe hostel is a 'traditional' YHA - still managed by a volunteer, so there is nobody there until 5pm. It doesnt have a shop of any sorts within the building but its walking distance to Clun town which has shops if you need to buy food to cook or pubs if you want to eat out.

The lady looking after the hostel was friendly and helpful.

The hostel is in a beautiful setting and is very quiet, while not being far from the picturesque town of Clun

We camped at the Hostel, where there is a separate Campers kitchen, shower and toilet. The drying room is in the same building. With being YHA members, after having the discount taken off, it was a great price for the peaceful location. We were lucky to have second Cousins Barbara & Vicky as Volunteer Wardens for that week. They were fantastic and made everyone welcome. There old mill is well preserved in the main building, and it is worth looking at.The little village has a couple of pubs that serve food, and a small supermarket.

We hired this exclusively for a hiking group weekend. This is such a charming building retaining much of the mill workings. The kitchen was compact but had everything we needed. The grounds are well maintained with a large bike shed. This hostel oozes with character and is a great place to stay with nice pubs within just a couple of minutes walk. This is a great place to use as a base to explore the Shropshire Hills. The volunteer Managers were extremely pleasant and very helpful.

I've stayed at quite a lot of yhas many years ago and recently. I have been telling all my friends how great that are. All I can say is the attitude of the warden has really upset me. You may be alright in the hostel but certainly don't camp, he made us feel completely unwelcome. I even had to ask for mugs as there were none in the camping kitchen. Guest in the hostel constantly nosied around the kitchen and used the toilet. This wouldn't be a problem if it wasn't for the fact there is only one room containing the only toilet shower and wash sink campers have access to. The place is very beautiful but unless you take you're own toilet don't bother
