Great apartment within Les Balcons, ideal for a family of 5.

The kitchen was small but more than adequate. Bathroom only had a bath with a shower attachment. However, it was always warm throughout the apartment and plenty of hot water all the time.

A typical French Savoir ski apartment with Ski In/Ski Out and within easy access of lifts and Ski School.

We have stayed in a number of Balcons apartments before so new what to expect with regard to the basic nature of the accommodation but was still slightly disappointed with this one.

We had the 12/15 person chalet. As with all French accommodation I would not want to fill it to capacity. There were 9 adults and 2 children and you would not want too many more people than that.

Positives

Location - walk out of boot room through car park and up a small slope - approx. 10m to a piste to ski down to main lift - a button lift drops you off in the same place if you do not want to walk up the hill - so can be virtually ski in ski out if you want. There is also a small sledging area here which the kids loved.

Free access to swimming pool in the resort.

Comfy beds.

Sauna - The sauna facilities were very good.

Car Parking - Indoor car parking at a reasonable price.

Negatives

Only one person on reception in half term week so over an hour queue to check in.

Only wifi in reception area which was quite slow (this is well documented on website so knew about it in advance)

Soundproofing - Awful sound proofing in the apartment. It felt like every noise could be heard from every room in the apartment.

Odd layout - No door on one of the 3 bed rooms on the mezzanine - made the sound issue even worse.

Tired accommodation - paint chipped - wall fixtures hanging off walls, plug sockets damaged etc.

Rubbish pillows.

No wine glasses.

All in all we had a good week however would probably not return here unless we knew it had been refurbished.

We booked the 12-15 person apartment with another family, 9 of us in total and the apartment could have slept another 4 people comfortably. There are three twin rooms and two triple rooms. The property is fairly basic, you collect clean bedding and towels and make up your own beds and you are required to do an inventory of equipment and a clean at the end of the week with an inspection before leaving. You will need to make sure you bring things like binbags, dishwasher tablets loo rolls etc as these are not provided and the nearest decent size supermarket is about 15 mins drive away. However, we loved our holiday here and it was a great first family ski holiday, with a boot room in the basement to leave all your equipment, a decent size table for family meals with plenty of plates and crockery glasses etc and a large balcony with views over the mountains. The location meant that a short walk from the boot room would get you to the slope down to the cablecar and we found the skiing very varied and enjoyable for a mixed ability group. We will be returning next year but bringing a few more provisions with us next time!

We had an apartment for 8 people in general pretty decent and clean. Location really good and pretty much everything you need to go skiing is available at the location. Downsides: no internet (only in the lobby and extremely slow) and you had to count all the plates, spoons, glasses etc.

Les Balcons is situated perfectly for access to slopes and the village, but the standard of finish to the appartments leaves something to be desired!

There are patisseries, ski rental shops and gift shops all within spitting distance and just a bit further on is the main village with supermarkets and other shops. The slopes can be reached by ski, and the main gondola is also ski-able. My advice, though, is take your car down and park for free (the French do get some things right) right opposite the godola.

The appartment we stayed in was huge and easily accommodated our party - two families of four and a single. The only odd thing was one of the rooms had no outside window and consequently got a bit muggy! The basic finish of the appartment was just that - and probably would have struggled with British Health and Safety. We found plenty of protruding screws and loose light fittings.

Other than that, though, I would definitely recommend these appartments. The staff were friendly and were happy to chat in English about all the facilities. Just a word of warning, though - wi-fi (whilst free) is only available in the reception area.
