A pleasant lunch stop. Service was a little slow to start with. Had to actually ask for a menu and it wasn’t busy. However, the food was good and filled us for our onward journey.

Thank Gill C

Have had many great lunches here over the years and last week was no different. Really enjoyed the vodka beers after skiing. Kids love the chicken and chips.

We stopped skiing and went for lunch - had not noticed the reviews talking about the slow service. Slow isn’t really the word - catatonic better describes it. The food is very average but to be honest you are so hungry by the time it arrives it doesn’t really matter. The second worst on-piste restaurant of our holiday - first place goes to the nightmare ‘Happy Chalet’ this is Manigod not val d’Isère how do they expect to survive when they treat their customers with such dreadful levels of service?

Christine and Gerard left big shoes to fill when they retired but we went open minded to see what changes had been made. We were served by an English waitress who insisted on speaking to us in French! We speak French but it was a ridiculous situation - we were the only people in the restaurant. We asked if they had wine in pichets? She just said 'no' not let me get you the wine list, we have house red etc etc just 'no' possibility the rudest person I had met - she wouldn't have lasted 5 minutes with Christine. The heating was off, the place was deserted and freezing cold. The menu is pretty much the same as before but the food is average. We were then charged €4 for a bad coffee. We will never go back. Go to the Rosiere instead Alice is a delight in the restaurant and the food is good.

We have been dining at Chez Fonfon for over 15 years, Gerard and Christine, were always so hospitable, relaxed and caring. We went there recently to find that Gerard and Christine have retired and new owners taken over.
The atmosphere has totally changed. The waiters rush around and make you feel like you are an inconvenience. I was waiting to be seated and a waiter walked into me with a huge tray of drinks, he scowled at me and didn't even say sorry (even though I did) it really hurt my arm, it was a miracle he didn't spill the drinks all over me! Eventually we were seated, ignored for much of the time, no smile with service, no bread with food, drinks and sauces requested did not arrive. Even the ESF ski instructors did not receive good service (they were always treated with great care and respect). Altogether it was totally unpleasant experience, (although the food was OK) the service ethos is worse than appalling, when we dared to mention the poor service the owner turned to his partner and said, (in French) ignore them they are only four people!
We don't expect things to stay the same, but we do expect to be treated with respect and care as customers, the place has lost all its charm. They now book out nearly all the tables, the rush around looking stressed, its more like a poorly managed pretentious London restaurant that a relaxed french ski in/out restaurant on the piste. Such a shame!
