The price I paid was excellent for this hotel. Around 2000 TWD per night for a common room, so I guess it's a pretty good bargain. Very high standard and cozy for the price. Nice and warm staff, too. Liked the soap.

This is about the few nice, modern hotels in Hualien. We stayed in a room able to accommodate 5 persons, which meant 2 full-size beds, and one person to bunk on the floor. There was a generous long desk and 3 chairs. However, the wardrobe space is very limited with 1 hanging space for at most 8 pieces of clothing and 3 drawers. Overall, the room was adequate for a short stay.

In terms of amenities, this hotel comes with what is expected in many 5-star hotels - fridge, kettle, coffee + tea making and toiletries - that will suit the modern traveller.

The bathroom for our room was very comfortably large - a full-size bathtub, a long sink and lots of space in between. What let the bathroom down was the very poor lighting - one light over the shower (which was bright) and one dingy wall lamp over the toilet. So in between, especially over the washbasin, it is very dim. Thankfully for us, it was unseasonably warm when we were visiting Hualien so even though the bathroom felt cold, it was not uncomfortable for us. But I can imagine how dark and cold the bathroom feels at other times.

The breakfast buffet spread was not impressive but adequate, serving mostly Taiwanese food.

Service-wise, the hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. There was complimentary coffee in the lobby along with a selection of biscuits at the reception. Wifi was free but speed was very patchy.

I would have given this hotel 3-stars (minus 0.5 star for the breakfast and 1.5 star for the dingy, dim bathroom) but the thing that really spoilt our experience was the awful water in the room. On our first night, the water in our room smelled so bad that it was just awful brushing our teeth and showering. The smell was as bad as that of drain water. I naturally complained but the staff told me this was normal and nothing to worry about. But the whole room stinked anyway.

However, on the second night, I chose to let the water run for at least 30 minutes before we showered. That time round, the water not longer smelled. We were relieved. But then it got us really worried about the awful water we had to use on the first night. For this alone, I feel the need to award less than 1 star for this hotel.

Naturally I won't return to this hotel again.

We stayed just one night in Quality Inn Hualian for our visit to Taruko. The hotel is much better inside than you look from the street. We were upgraded to a bigger room with big bed and wooden parquet flooring even in the bathroom. Room is clean , comfortable and quiet even-though it is the near the city center because opposite the hotel is an open air car park. Main shopping streets are just 5 -10 minutes walking distance.
Front desk is friendly and they would arrange taxi/transportation for anywhere you want to go in Hualian without extra (hotel) charges.

We went in August so paid full rate (approx. USD 130/night) for the extra large king size room (two double beds put together) on the top floor. Note: the reception told us that during off peak season, the room rate is discounted by 50%.

Upon entering I can tell from the smell that the room hasn't been stayed in for a while. We left the a/c on and cracked the window open a bit for the rest of the day. The smell didn't go away until the next morning. There were mildew stains on the a/c vent and there were visible paint job to cover up the mildew. The mirrors (in the bedroom and bathroom) have hand prints from left behind from either the previous customers or housekeeping.

The room has all the basic amenities: a small safe, toiletries, slippers, clean sheets, extra pillow. Nothing to gripe or wow about.

The location, like other reviewers mentioned, is centralized. Convenient to fast food (McDonald's few minutes away), Starbucks, and famous eateries (including a famous dumpling 公正包子 about 10 minutes walk away).

Breakfast is mostly traditional Taiwanese food, with congee, eggs, pickles, and vegetables in warmers. For "western" selection, there are bread and fresh fruits.

If you drive, note that the hotel doesn't have a parking garage. The hotel will recommend that you find street parking or the public lot across street, which the hotel provides 6 hours validated service per day.

Room Tip: Choose a room facing the front with lots of natural light and mountain view.

Stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. Hotel staff were very helpful and friendly. Complimentary coffee was provided in the lobby together with a selection of biscuits. My room was spacious and clean. Wi-fi was available in the room. Breakfast was buffet style and typically Taiwanese.
