Breathtaking views, watch sunrise from your very own balcony. Ours was corner room 208 - we stayed for two nights, relished the sunrise, and enjoyed the balcony the entire day, watching the light change minute by minute.

Clean and very spacious room. It’s not fancy and some have observed that the place is old, but it’s spotlessly clean and functional. Tea and coffee, hairdryer, toothbrushes, towels and breakfast provided. Functional hot shower and heated bed, great for winter nights.

Public bus stop (Shou-Ting) conveniently located at doorstep of the minsu. But the bus only runs once hourly, so catch it or wait. Owner-host dropped us off at the Cingjing Farm where we paid to enter and watched the sheep shearing performance at 10am. We also paid to walk downslope on the skywalk - not sheltered so u will need a good hat on a hot day! And downslope is much more enjoyable than upslope!

7/11 just a stone’s throw away from Sunnydale, so are some restaurants and the England Manor. Walk further in via the Manor to enjoy beautifully crafted cakes and coffee at Patisserie a la Montaigne.

We took out some dinner from 7/11 and the host helped us to microwave it up.

We are most grateful for the warm hospitality from owner-hosts over this Chinese New Year period.

The lights in the room very dim. Kids not allow to run in the hotel. Very small area and limited foods for breakfast. Kids above 6 must treat as adult and must pay for extra bed. Need to carry our own luggage bags to third floor. Not recommended hotel if you have kids.

The website pictures made the place looked better than it really is. The hotel is really old. The reception is actually the cafe and smelt of stale cooking fumes. Rooms were poorly maintained -furniture was badly scuffed, toilet fixtures were discolored or rusty, the cables for the TV and cable box simply dangled from the powerpoint. The only plus point was the view. Fortunate to have stayed only one night.

Arranged for the Taiwan Ok bus to send us to the door of Sunnydale from Sun Moon Lake and we had a warm welcome from the staff, providing assistance and info on how to get around and points of interest.

The room we were given was clean and comfy although it looked a little old. The view from the room and balcony compensated for everything.

Hot water shower was also in abundance and there was a drinking water dispenser right outside our room for consumption so that was really convenient.

The breakfast spread was good for us who are on vegetarian meals, with choice of soy drinks, coffee and tea.

We were also quite happy with the location as there were a number of eateries nearby for meals. However to get to Swiss garden or the pasture, transport is recommended to be arranged through Sunnydale.

Sunnydale is located near the heart of Qingjing - close to the action without being in the middle of it. This is especially important to me as I want to enjoy a quiet and relaxing stay. It is highly accessible within the area without the noise and touristy hustle. The 7-11 is just a 10 min walk up from the place. The local bus (note the limited number of trips each day) going both ways stop just outside.

My stay was 4 nights during late September, and apparently that is peak season there. On a good day, you can enjoy a full view of the mountains from your own balcony with a coffee. That was exactly why I came to relax, and that alone was worth the price.

The room itself is not lavish by any means, but is very spacious with a sofa and large coffee table meant for one to relax. The bed is comfortable, and the LCD TV could be larger, but was solid for watching a movie.

As with B&B's, a key component is the operator. Mr. Liu and the lady (sorry forgot your name!) was very hospitable and kindly provided rides up to the theme park Farm and the shopping area. They arranged for dinner at nearby restaurants and even treated us to dinner when we were late to find out that arrangements need to be made. So dinner arrangements need to be made early, noted. Naturally they gave good advice on where to go during our stay.

My only comment is that we were located at the top (2nd) floor at the far side. Without a lift in the facilities, we carried our luggage up. This may be a challenge to some less accessible and you may need help. Otherwise I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. Alternatively, the pathway was set so that those less accessible can use the ground floor rooms.

For those going, I would suggest those visiting the Qingjing Farm (theme park) and have a nice walk down the hill to the Starbucks / burger joint. I would suggest skipping the paid sky walkway unless you're ready for extensive time in the sun. I would also suggest joining a local tour to see the stars and sunrise.

Room tip: Ask for the rooms with your own balcony. The ground floor rooms' balconies are shared as a deck.
