The remains of the monastic village and cemetery are lovely, but my best advice is to do the visitors centre first, as the signage in the village is not very good. You will have a better understanding of the significance of the structures and the background of the hermit who began all this.
The walks to the lake are not strenuous, but a relatively long hike. The views of the lake and surrounding mountains are beautiful.
