We enjoyed staying at the Hotel Vista Premio - the location was great and the room was relatively large considering we were in Japan. I note however, that there are no in-room safes but also that the breakfast really was very poor.

I'm a very open-minded traveller when it comes to food but I found the selection at breakfast overly complicated and just plain strange...there was no safe option to choose for a reliable breakfast for example, you couldn't have a standard European breakfast or a standard Japanese breakfast - the food on offer was just too whacky. It seemed like the restaurant was trying a bit too hard to have a lot of original options but it was also chronically understaffed, which meant that the dishes that people actually liked weren't refreshed very often as there obviously wasn't the staff levels required to do this.

We enjoyed three nights at this hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the room was very clean and so quiet at night. It is literally a 30 second walk from the covered shopping streets with a huge variety of shops and restaurants.

The hotel was just off the main drag of Karawamachi, so quieter and within yards of the main shopping arcades. Also well-placed for the Gion district and many other Kyoto attractions (walking distance). We stayed 4 nights B&B. As always the staff were very helpful and friendly. The breakfast buffet was largely Japanese and we had to search through the kanji labels to find a small caption in English so that we could be sure that we weren't going to make a choice that was not quite to our taste. The fruit juice was rather odd, and rather over-sweet. Otherwise everything else was really good with a comfortable room and western style bed.

Room Tip: Minimal noise on 4th floor where we stayed.

The hotel is in a busy location - near covered shopping and lots of restaurants. Our room was a good size (upgraded room) and was comfortable and quiet for sleeping. The front desk staff were very helpful with arranging luggage forwarding, taxi, etc. Every day there were 2 new bottles of water in our room. The breakfast was good, but they sometimes ran out of the popular items. The hotel has coin washers and dryers which is handy.

The hotel is in the center of the city, surrounded by restaurant and shops. Gion, and Pontocho are in walking distance.
Rooms are clean and larger than usual business hotels in Japan (although not as large as hotels in other countries are).
