First shrine that we went to and the buildings were so elaborate. The area was peaceful and not crowded by tourists. It had paths to other areas of the shrine.

I came here, and it was nice to see the shrine. Also, there is a temple nearby, and you can sit by the small river/pond and enjoy the turtles and fish. If you want to explore culture and history in Tokyo, come here, it's a nice place and the shrine is beautifully designed and made. So colorful to walk through. I went in the afternoon, around 2 pm so good thing there weren't many people. You can get many pictures with the shrine. Also, it's free to come and view it.

A nice shrine with attractive gardens surrounding it. I went early on a weekday morning (before 9am) and was one of the only people there. There are several nice photo spots here and there are no crowds like most of the other shrines. The flowers weren't in bloom in July but other peoples' photos from other times of the year look stunning.

I didn't know about this the first time I went to Tokyo, but came across it on this trip while looking for spots slightly off the usual tourist trails. Recommend a visit if you're nearby. It's walkable from Ueno.

This beautiful shrine is a hidden gem in Tokyo. You'll find the tunnel of Torii gates which are picture perfect - especially if you arrive early in the morning. Most websites say the shrine opens at 9am, but you can walk through the torii gates even a bit earlier. This is the best time to go as there will be no one else there to block your view and photos of the torii gates. The cost to enter is FREE, making this an awesome spot for those on a budget, travelling with family, or just looking to have a peaceful, quiet morning.
