This is another of the many statues located in Solomos Square in Zante. Due to it’s size it is one of the stand out monuments in the Square.
The tall bronze statue stands along the seafront, facing out to sea. It depicts a woman standing on rocks holding a laurel wreath aloft.
It stands in front of the Statue of Dionysios Solomos with the Byzantine Museum in the background.
By the side of the monument there are two small cannon, one on either side.
Greece's independence was granted in July 1832, under the Treaty of Constantinople when Greece was formally as a free country.
