Owner description: Enjoy a warm welcome and experience a true Alaskan lifestyle at Husky Homestead—home of Iditarod Champion, Jeff King. Husky Homestead is widely heralded as an authentic look into rural lifestyles based on 40 years of Alaskan adventures: from freight hauling on Denali to crossing the finish line in Nome, Alaska with a champion Iditarod team. Cuddle puppies upon arrival and share an intimate view of the Alaskan Husky as the team explodes from the dog yard and witness their beauty in motion as they run on our treadmill before hitting the trail for a training run. Get a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into creating a championship team and carving a life in Alaska's Interior. Hear compelling stories from the trail and see actual racing sleds, arctic survival gear and equipment used to traverse 1100 miles of Alaska's most rugged terrain. Dress in extra layers, wear comfortable shoes, bring bug repellent - and your camera! Our 2018 season runs from May 9th - September 14th.

One of the very best excursions while in Alaska! Jeff King and his crew do an amazing job! Oh the puppies! What a blast to socialize with the puppies!

Picked this activity because we had some time to kill before our bus ride into the park and they offered free shuttle pick-up service to our hotel. I had to "sell" my hubby on the idea of going to this attraction as he wasn't too thrilled with the idea and it is fairly pricey. I'm happy to say that we both thought this was a lot of fun and worth the money once you see how the dogs are supported and trained. Have to admit that the puppies they hand you as soon as you arrive are pretty irresistible. The dog demonstration was very interesting and the Iditarod overview was equally interesting and entertaining and we were lucky enough to have it given by Jeff King. On the return trip to our hotel the driver was nice enough to take a little detour so that I could get a picture of the Denali Park sign - great service with a smile!!

The visit to the Husky Homestead proved to be worthwhile. The bus picks you up at the main lodge of our hotel and the ride was about 20 minutes. Upon arrival we were greeted with a chance to hold 6 weeks to 6 months puppies. It was fun to hold the puppies but my husband and I were more impressed with the presentation by Jeff King, four time Iditarod Champion. He must tell his story a million times to visitors but you would never know that he gives this presentation often because he shows much enthusiasm for the sport. His love for the dogs, the thrill of the race and his passion to train his sled dogs allows him to give us lots of information about the hardships of the race, training the dogs and so much more about life in Alaska. His staff had to give him a sign that it was time to wrap up the presentation as the dogs needed his attention. Initially, we started not to go because the tickets seem expensive for holding puppies and listening to a presentation. However, once you learn the amount of food the dogs consume, the daily training sessions, the equipment needed for the races, etc. the ticket price is understandable and worth the visit.

We were the last tour, and they made us feel super special! Since it was just the 2 of us, we were very excited to sit down and talk to Jeff King 1:1 at the end of our tour. We were super excited to play with the puppies... all of them! They had small ones and super small ones that we got to hold.. :):) We saw the dogs as well, and some even had special tricks that they did for us! We would definitely recommend going on this tour, when visiting AK.

Wow! Just the highlight of our 8 day Alaska-Yukon trip. From the moment you first arrive at the camp and are handed a husky puppy to the last few minutes talking with Jeff King, it's a trip you will never forget. You will see and hear everything about being a "musher" from Jeff and his staff. Book it, you will not be disappointed!!
