Owner description: Enjoy a warm welcome and experience a true Alaskan lifestyle at Husky Homestead—home of Iditarod Champion, Jeff King. Husky Homestead is widely heralded as an authentic look into rural lifestyles based on 40 years of Alaskan adventures: from freight hauling on Denali to crossing the finish line in Nome, Alaska with a champion Iditarod team. Cuddle puppies upon arrival and share an intimate view of the Alaskan Husky as the team explodes from the dog yard and runs on our treadmill before hitting the trail for a training run. Get a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into creating a championship team and carving a life in Alaska's Interior. Hear compelling stories from the trail and see actual racing sleds, arctic survival gear and equipment used to traverse 1100 miles of Alaska's most rugged terrain. Our 2017 tour season begins May 10th and ends on September 21st. Special Note(s): Dress in warm layers. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Bring a jacket, gloves and a hat. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by parent or guardian. Outside portion of this tour is approximately 45 minutes, inside portion is approximately 45 minutes. We look forward to meeting you!

Read all the excellent reviews for this attraction. Everyone is absolutely correct. This place is wonderful, interesting and simply very cool(not to mention educational). We were picked up on time by one of the shuttles and delivered to the Homestead where we were handed a puppy. It only got better from there. The staff at the Homestead obviously loves what they are doing and this facility is perfect for visitors. From the blankets handed out to stave off the chills to the covered sitting area for the outside presentation to the warm and welcoming indoor presentation area. Jeff King is an amazing speaker and wears his passion for what he does, Alaska and most importantly the dogs on his sleeve. This trip is worth every minute, every dollar and an absolute don't miss if in the area. Call ahead for reservations and pick up coordinates...you cannot drive directly to the Homestead but have to take a shuttle. Do not miss the attractions.

One of the very best excursions while in Alaska! Jeff King and his crew do an amazing job! Oh the puppies! What a blast to socialize with the puppies!

Picked this activity because we had some time to kill before our bus ride into the park and they offered free shuttle pick-up service to our hotel. I had to "sell" my hubby on the idea of going to this attraction as he wasn't too thrilled with the idea and it is fairly pricey. I'm happy to say that we both thought this was a lot of fun and worth the money once you see how the dogs are supported and trained. Have to admit that the puppies they hand you as soon as you arrive are pretty irresistible. The dog demonstration was very interesting and the Iditarod overview was equally interesting and entertaining and we were lucky enough to have it given by Jeff King. On the return trip to our hotel the driver was nice enough to take a little detour so that I could get a picture of the Denali Park sign - great service with a smile!!

The visit to the Husky Homestead proved to be worthwhile. The bus picks you up at the main lodge of our hotel and the ride was about 20 minutes. Upon arrival we were greeted with a chance to hold 6 weeks to 6 months puppies. It was fun to hold the puppies but my husband and I were more impressed with the presentation by Jeff King, four time Iditarod Champion. He must tell his story a million times to visitors but you would never know that he gives this presentation often because he shows much enthusiasm for the sport. His love for the dogs, the thrill of the race and his passion to train his sled dogs allows him to give us lots of information about the hardships of the race, training the dogs and so much more about life in Alaska. His staff had to give him a sign that it was time to wrap up the presentation as the dogs needed his attention. Initially, we started not to go because the tickets seem expensive for holding puppies and listening to a presentation. However, once you learn the amount of food the dogs consume, the daily training sessions, the equipment needed for the races, etc. the ticket price is understandable and worth the visit.
