“Excellent views, great Sunrise spot.”
Reviewed 21 February 2012

A little off the village, but still an excellent view. There's an easy trail down that you can walk for some 500m and offers great scenery.

“Nice sunset views”
Reviewed 9 January 2012

The Grandview is such a wide open view point that is different from some of the other stops along the south rim. The immediate rocks are more gold in color, rather than red, and you can see pretty far out and around you into the canyon. It's a great spot to watch the sunset.

“Nice View - More Trees - Less People”
Reviewed 31 December 2011

Grandview Point, in my opinion, is one of the three excellent viewpoints (the other two are Lipan Point and Desert View) along the East Rim/Desert View Drive which is accessible by private auto. The viewpoint has more trees, including ponderosa pines, than other viewpoints on South Rim and a spectacular wide-open view of the canyon. Neither the road nor the viewpoint was crowded when we visited in the spring. Grandview is a historic site as well; the original center of Grand Canyon tourist activity and the access point to the Last Chance Copper Mine although nothing remains from this time. Grandview Point is also the trailhead for the Grandview Trail. As nice as this viewpoint is, keep heading east for two that I think are even better, Lipan Point and Desert View.

“The best sunrise viewing spot & scariest trail...”
Reviewed 15 November 2011

My Dad & I visited The Grand canyon in October, the PERFECT time to visit, no crowds, beautiful chilly weather - - Grandview is the best vantage point on the South Rim, arrive 1/2 hour before sunrise to get the best colors - The trail leading into the canyon gets really steep in about 1/4 mile, be extremely careful - DON"T take young kids on this trail, but it was definitely worth a brief excursion for me.... Anytime of day is fine here, but morning is especially beautiful. Continue East on the South Road, until you get to the visitor's center & "adobe" tower - another great vantage point for viewing the canyon - When You're done, go back to the bar in the Historic hotel in the main village & have the nacho's & a cocktail, as you look out of the huge windows into the canyon...

“An historic lookout”
Reviewed 19 January 2009

Grandview Point is about halfway between Grand Canyon Village and Desert View, and is worth a stop. It is more wooded than other viewpoints and is quite pretty. It is the highest viewpoint on the south rim.

Grandview has an interesting history as it was the site of the very first hotel located on the rim of the canyon. This hotel was built in 1895, and was quite popular. However, when the railroad came to the area, it stopped at the village. In 1905 the magnificent El Tovar Hotel was opened near the village, and the Grandview hotel fell into decline.

There are some interesting informational signs and photos, but nothing remains of the hotel.

This viewpoint seemed less crowded than many others on the south rim when we visited in April 2008, and it does indeed have a "grand" view!
