“Comfortable country cottage”
Reviewed 10 April 2018 for a stay in April 2018

Smudgers is a really lovely country cottage the photos do not do it justice. Spacious and comfortable with a warm welcome from hosts Alan and Chris who couldn't have looked after us any better. The cottage is quite isolated down miles of lanes but embrace the wildlife and rolling hills and walk just up a field on to the beautiful coastal path. In just a weekend we walked to welcombe mouth beach and hartland quay in the opposite direction who serve very good food. Taking supplies is advised because civilisation is a little sparse.

Hi Sandra, Thanks for the lovely review. We were sorry that we did not get back in time to see you leave, the usual vagaries of travelling on the M5 did not help.Hope to see you again. Chris

“Super location, friendly owners”
Reviewed 12 September 2017 for a stay in August 2017

Cottage is beautifully situated in the depths of the Devon countryside a short distance from the coast. Good size paddock for walking the dog. Chris and Alan very friendly and helpful - happy to look after our dog for the day when we visited Lundy. Easy to access the coast path, spectacular cliffs and sea views. Old Smithy Inn (about 2 miles away) also dog friendly and food was good, pub was crowded at the weekend. Docton Mill gardens and tea rooms also recommended.

Broadband, as might be expected in rural Devon, a bit slow and erratic. Cottage is well equipped and more spacious than it appears from the photos. Welcoming cream tea on arrival.

Always pleased when our guests enjoy their stay in this beautiful, little visited part of Devon.
Sorry about the Broadband which is one of the penalties of living here. We can only blame BT.

Very comfortable well furnished everything you need for short break. Ideal location for peace and quiet, close to coastal path for enjoyable walks. Made to feel very welcome and appreciated the cream tea. Chris and Alan are lovely people who were very welcoming. I am sure we will stay there again.
