The majority of reviews for Finca Luna Nueva deservedly fall into the 5 star category. My friends and I concur--- we'd give it 10 stars were there that option.
The staff in every department is exceptional ( even by Costa Rican standards---where the people are universally recognized for their warmth and hospitality ). Everyone aims to please and they invariably succeed.
The grounds are impeccably maintained and the landscaping is natural as opposed to formal and stilted.
The food is as promised; 90% farm to table--- fresh, tasty and plentiful. There is a bountiful dinner buffet; if you want something more traditional there are 2 conventional dinner options. Food preferences and sensitivities are easily accommodated.
We did two tours--- both guided by Roy (of Royvin Nature Tours). FLN is blessed to have found and conscripted this particular guide. Roy has 19 years of experience and it shows in many ways. ( Ive done tours with many others in CR and they were not anywhere as qualified nor motivated.) He is also 100% bilingual Spanish/English.
DONT MISS THE NIGHT TOUR and the BIRDING TOUR. Orinthologists and back yard birders will "wet their pants" with glee; we have to have seen 30 bird species... maybe more.
As an someone who has dabbled extensively for 50 years with herbalism , I truly regret not having had the chance to do a "jungle medicine" workshop with the resident herbalist, Ariel. I did speak with him informally and he knows his stuff!
We also missed the Mariola bee tour. This is a unique stingless bee indigenous to CR. The honey is exquisite and extremely medicinal--- it rivals the famous Manuka honey from New Zealand. ( There are 280 species of bees in CR!)
Lastly, I will mention the expert massage administered by Alejandra. She offers 10 different types; I got a combo of Thai techniques and deep tissue. It was delicious; I did not know how tense I was and how the long car ride had actually affected my 72 year old body.
Book without an iota of hesitancy. Depending on the time of year you may need to reserve months ahead. There are a variety of accommodation options but It's not huge "resort" and it is becoming quite well known and popular.
