I stayed with my fiancee at The Cappuccino Lounge, this month and we had an absolutely great time. From the moment we walked in the staff were sooooo friendly and gave us a complete rundown on where to go, the best beaches etc. Our room was cosy and definately worth the price. We opted for air-conditioning and that really made a difference. What really impressed me apart from the friendliness was how willing they were to please and the location couldn't be better. It was recommended to me by a friend who stayed there last year and I would definately go back. Check out their guest book when you do visit, they have some great reviews from customers that have stayed there. Worth a visit!

I stayed in the Cappuccino Lounge in December 2006 and was most disappointed. The hosts were delightful and very welcoming but the rooms were well below standard and frankly awful. I had booked a twin bedded room and instead was given a smaller than double bed. The ac in the room was broken and the mosquito screens were holey and torn in many places, there was one slightly larger than handtowel provided which was once white and not heavily stained. There were freestanding wooden steps into the bathroom which slipped easily, the bathroom door would not close and there was no soap or toilet paper and the water ran very lukewarm. The room had a lot of small midges. The noise from the street was constant with traffic and general noise all night and I checked out earlier than planned owing to the discomfort and lack of facilities. The bar was friendly and easy going at night but it did not appear to be open in the morning for breakfast and coffee as promised.

The Capuccino Lounge, located in downtown St. John's, Antigua, is both a restaurant and bar, with entertainment, and rooms to rent upstairs. My brother and I stayed here as it was one of the least expensive places we could find and we needed only one night there since we were travelling to Montserrat the next morning. The rooms were $50 which is fine; but upon our arrival we walked up the stairs into a narrow hall, and the room itself was tiny, with a large comfortable bed, tiny bath with hot and cold water, toilet and shower, and a television with cable. But the place lacks any charm, unless you are into local entertainment, which is what the bar and lounge downstairs provides. After a comfortable night's sleep, we asked about breakfast and ordered bacon and eggs--without any menu--as the place is very informal. When the bill came it was US$25, which is higher than Manhattan.

This place is good for those who need a very basic bed for the night, but extended stays might be interrupted by the music emanating from the first floor bar. There are people drinking at all hours of the day, and you don't really know when the noise will stop. It would be great if the full menu were printed out for people to know what to pay, or expect to pay, in advance. Nothing special, but for $50 a night, plus tax, it's not bad overall.

If you want luxury with a view of the beach or ocean, find another place.

Antigua itself is a nice island with lots of beaches, and the downtown area of St. John's is pleasant enough with lots of shoppings, resaturants, bars, boutiques and banking facilities with ATM machines. This place is convenient to the downtown which is a plus.
