We just got back yesterday from Divi Aruba. We found a good deal on CheapCarribian.com for 6 days, all inclusive, including airfare for $1,200 apiece. We’d never been to Aruba so we thought that deal was too good to pass up.

THE GOOD:

- the food was really good. I don’t claim to be a foodie but I was pleasantly surprised. The food was better than the Sandals resorts we’ve been to. Even the buffets were really good. The Mexican restaurant, Pure Lime, is garbage but everything else was good. You can eat at the Tamarijn resort right next door also.

- We got upgraded from a garden view to beachfront for free just by asking.

- Pools were nice, grounds were well kept, & drinks were strong.

- Chairs were plentiful & cabanas were easy to get as long as you got up early enough.

- There’s a free shuttle golf cart between the 2 resorts so eating at Tamarijn is no problem at all.

- The after dinner shows can be interesting. The pirate show was a cool Cirque du Soleil-style acrobatics show.

THE BAD:

- About half of the staff was unpleasant or rude, some were pleasant, & some were great. I have read lots of reviews about how unhappy the staff is & I can confirm it’s true.

- To make dinner reservations you have to go through the tour desk. It takes FOREVER bc some people just show up to the resort without having done any research on excursions or booking anything in advance. They’ll sit there at the excursion desk for an hour debating what to sign up for while you just need 2 mins to book your dinner. Super frustrating.

- WiFi is awful

- Beds & pillows are uncomfortable. Hard to get any sleep.

THE SO SO:

- Rooms are ok. Nothing special. Pretty much what I expected for $1,200 per week.

- Beach sand is great. Very soft, white, & doesn’t get hot. Beach water is not that great. Visibility is about 18” & there’s a narrow strip of decent colored turquoise water. If you walk around the corner to Eagle Beach, the water is much better & the beach is extremely wide.

We weren’t impressed with Aruba in general & won’t be back. To be fair, it rained on us or was cloudy all week so that probably had a negative impact on our experience. Hopefully you’ll enjoy it more. We didn’t get to see much of the nice blue water bc the sun wasn’t shining. I don’t see why people like it so much. The airport is bizarre also. When you leave you have to check you bags, go through customs, pick up your bags, go through customs a 2nd time, & finally check your bags again. Quite chaotic & hectic.

Just returned last week from 15 nights all inclusive as part of a Thomson (TUI) package. Check-in was undertaken by reception staff during our short coach transfer from the airport and included a comprehensive welcome pack as well as a useful beach bag. On arrival at the hotel we were met with cold towels and bottles of water. The staff directed us to our room and our cases arrived very quickly after. All in all a very efficient check in.
We had paid to upgrade to a pool view room in the new Vista iii block and were given room 3313 which was very comfortable and complete with all the expected amenities and a large bathroom with lovely walk in shower. Whilst there is a fridge it is not stocked. The AC was very quiet and efficient. Housekeeping kept the room spotless. Being on the third floor our balcony looked over the low rise accommodation out to sea. This new block has its own pools, loungers and bar which are a convenience but does not stop you going elsewhere within the two resorts. The beach is only 50 yards away with beds and shade but they get reserved early. We did have two double beds in the room which whilst very comfortable were too soft for us. Also rooms 6-15 on all floors back onto the carpark with a very large fan on a piece of plant going 24/7 which could be intrusive if you are a light sleeper!
The reason we picked this resort is that you can use all the facilities at the sister Tamarijn resort at the other end of Druif Beach which is just beautiful. In addition just five minutes walk away around the point is Eagle Beach which stretches towards the high rise tourist area and which is probably one of the best beaches in the Caribbean. Great for afternoon walks prior a sundowner! The resorts are in the low rise area and are more relaxed than the hotels in the high rise area albeit you can never legislate for unreasonable fellow guests. An excellent shuttle service runs between the resorts as well as the adjacent Alhambra Casino & shops. The entertainment programme is varied between the resorts with something for everyone. Also the gardens are well maintained with excellent after dark lighting. WIFI throughout the resort was good and free.
Between the two resorts there are 2 buffet and 5 speciality restaurants along with at least 8 bars and 2 grills many of which back onto the beach; especially lovely for a drink under a starry night sky. Glass for drinking is generally restricted to the restaurants and bar at the Paparazzi with plastic Eco cups everywhere else for obvious safety reasons. Speciality restaurants can be booked 48 hours in advance from 8.00AM at the concierge. Obviously on arrival availability is initially limited but once you are in the system there should be no problem assuming you get in early.
The food and drink quality in all the restaurants was generally very good if a little repetitive in the buffet but then we were there for 15 nights. The specialities were all good in their own way and are worth trying.
Generally staff throughout the resort were friendly and helpful and we did tip where exceptional. We did have a couple of issues of being forgotten in Paparazzi and discussed these with management. Also minor moan that the Red Parrot menu promised potato gratin with every main course which arrived as mash potato with melted cheese on top; not great when main course also came with mash. Frustrating as the buffet served great gratin on a couple of occasions.
For exercise you can walk into Oranjestad in less than an hour as an alternative to the convenient buses or taxis. Alternatively you can walk to the high rise area via Eagle Beach in an hour and a quarter. Just don’t forget to take water. Also the free bikes available from the Tamarijn are fun to explore the surrounding areas which are relatively flat. The butterfly farm up towards the high rise area was certainly worth a visit as the guided tour is very informative and the colours are wonderful.
The website says that restaurant dress code is elegant casual but beach casual is more accurate. Day or night the temperature was very comfortable supporting relaxed dress. Whilst the hotel does laundry should you need it, there is a Euro laundry on the way into Oranjestad which was substantially cheaper and efficient.
Be warned there are mosquitoes and they did bite but the colourful iguanas are harmless. Also the North Americans in particular come to party and they do but all was quiet by 11.00.
In summary these are Great resorts for a relaxed beach holiday on a safe friendly island.

We spent 6 days with 3 couples celebrating 3 birthdays .I cannot wait to return. The beach is outstanding . The staff that works at the resort cannot do enough for the guests
The food for an all inclusive is very good. The buffet at breakfast and lunch was always fresh, hot and all the food is replentished regularly. Dinners were wonderful and the wait staff couldn't do enough for us
A few things that can be done to further guest enjoyment would be to have a water sports center located closer as you have to walk to the sister hotel in order to take out a sailboat or kyack .Although only a ten minute walk you can't call to see if they are available and it becomes annoying to walk back and forth 4 times only to be turned away.

There are always plenty of chairs although one must get up very early in order to get a palapa and have some much needed shade on the beach

As I mentioned earlier the staff cannot do enough that goes from house keeping to waiters andbar tenders. Always greeting guests with a smile.

This resort is a 3/4 star resort acting like a 5 star resort without the stuffy air and big cost one expects with 5 star properties
We will definitely return!!!!!!!

I stay at the vista II building. It has a great ocean view and a palumba for shade right in front of my room. The maids are the same every year and greet you with the smile and hug. The waitresses and waiters in the restaurant are the same every year. This makes me think the help in treated well. There are pools but the ocean is what i like. The color is a beautiful shade of aqua/blue. There are restaurants to pick from and a large buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The drinks are lightly alcaholic, but beer and wine are traditional. The grounds are well kept and I'm hoping to go back next year.

Room Tip: south side of vista I or II

This was our first trip to Aruba and we weren’t sure what to exoect. I couldn’t have picked a better place to stay. Everyone was extremely friendly. The room was clean. The food was great and the beaches were amazing! Already planning our next trip and we will definitely be returning to the Divi.
