I am currently here at the hotel (3/21/21) and leave tomorrow. This is my first time staying at the Marriott Surf Club and will be back. Thank you to all the staff who made this stay such a wonderful and relaxing experience.

First, addressing the current COVID requirements, they do a fantastic job. All the staff are masked and ready to clean with spray bottle in hand. There is a voice prompt every time you enter the building to reminder you to mask up before entering. There are signs on the elevator, one person/family per lift. There are signed everywhere reminding you to wash your hands frequently as well as touchless antibacterial hand liquid. I don't know what else they could possibly do to to be sure you have a safe stay!

My room was a queen w/pullout couch and kitchenette which contained microwave, coffee maker, toaster, utensils, Every room has a balcony (which I take full advantage of during the whole trip). It is located on the beach, so depending on your room, a short walk to have sand under your feet. There is also a safe, iron/board.

READ the COVID updates on their website! It is always being updated and explains the rooms are not addressed on a daily basis. However, the staff can always be found in the hallways with their carts, cleaning or turning over a room if you need something (ie it is not like they only appear once a week). Also, the bathroom had more than enough fluffy towels for me to last a few days.

The grounds are extremely clean and well maintained. Although I only relaxed by the Serenity Pool (over 18/21?), there are several others to choose from; a huge lazy river, a large family style pool, and a kiddie pool. There is a swim up bar and an onsite cafe.

If you choose to get a COVID test on site, bring your PASSPORT! I am not sure it is directly related to the Marriott or the company running the testing but the confirmation email says to bring an ID and lists the choices (not specifically 'passport'). When I arrived, they would only take a passport even though I pointed out the confirmation email to them, so I had to schlep all the way up to my room to grab it. Also, you need your room key as proof you are are a guest, and it is appointment only, so give yourself a good 48 hrs and book it online (and there is still a line to wait in. More than one person gets a time slot so be a few mins early). Last point, if you haven't been here before it is tucked away. I had to ask two different people directions to find it as there is no signage. The waitress was more than happy to to walk me directly there. I wish I knew her name because she took the time away from her work to do so.

Only complaint dear Marriott people: when the staff turns down the pool chairs (and sanitizes them) at night when the pool is closed, take away the purple chair tags. So many people leave them on a chair overnight so they don't have to wake up early to grab a chair (which wouldn't be necessary to claim a chair at 6 am if everyone just observed the rules). The staff will get complaints, but the visitors will only 'forget' their tag once.

I can't wait to return and will be sure to refer all my family and friends to this facility. You are on vacation, enjoy it! Don't sweat the little stuff!

We come to Surf Club every year. The efforts made to help us feel safe during our stay this year due to COVID were outstanding. Unlike the other reviewer, I didn't think it was a big deal to bring out my own trash or take care of making my own bed for a week to minimize having staff in my room. I know this is temporary and happy to comply if it made me more safe. Also... staff in the gym was great and their practice of immediately wiping down machines after used made us feel safe there. Finally... I was extremely impressed with the Security staff that helped me work out a personal emergency in thoughtful and caring manner. Felt like family. Special thanks to Lisa and Rosa there. You went above and beyond and I couldn't be more grateful.

Last year I stayed at my timeshare at the surf club and it was not good. What a difference a year makes. I can see that management listened and really did an amazing job fixing the issues. First I want to say that I was so impressed with the covid protocols that were in place. Everything was spotless sanitizers everywhere, Elevators were one family at a time, wipes and sanitizer in guest apartments, staff wearing masks. I want to shout out to the housekeeping staff. These ladies and gentlemen work so hard keeping everything clean and sanitized and do it with a smile. Please stop when you see them and say hello and thank them. They deserve it. The check in process was smooth. Got my apartment at 1pm which was great. The staff behind the desk is outstanding. Luzdary the manager and her team were great. Thank you to kyky (I think that is the spelling)for being so kind. The food was outstanding also. We are at the resort, ocean club and surf club. So delicious and served quickly. That staff outside serving you drinks and food with masks in that heat deserve your praise. They did it with a smile. Please tell them thank you and tip well. They deserve it. I had two issues with my safe and apartment but they came right up and fixed it and then they called to see if I was satisfied. Nice job!! Wow... what a difference a year makes. Our stay could not be more perfect. Thank you everyone for your hard work and dedication. I am in love with my timeshare again. The people on this island make this a must stop destination. If your thinking about it... just do it

My family has stayed at Surf Club many times in the past and we are so happy to be back! We are nearing the end of our week stay and it has been nothing but relaxing and enjoyable. As the previous review states, the staff has eliminated daily cleaning due to Covid. We have traveled to numerous vacation spots since Covid began and none of the Marriotts offered daily cleaning service. I am totally fine with that. If you have a larger unit, you have a washer and dryer. If not, the staff will gladly exchange towels. Our room is clean and more modern than some of the previous hotel rooms we’ve stayed in. The staff was cordial and accommodating at check in. The only rude employee I’ve encountered is the lady who makes sandwiches in the marketplace store located near the lobby. When I requested a turkey sandwich, she made it quite clear that I was inconveniencing her. She needs a lesson in customer service. The palapas (huts) on the beach are first come, first serve and complimentary. It is so much easier than at Ocean Club located next door (you must call each day to get a hut which costs between $10 - $30 per day depending on location). Again, our stay here at Surf Club has been fantastic and we look forward to coming back soon!

WORST MARRIOTT RESORT. BE AWARE !!
We are (better said “were until March 13th) happy Marriott resort owners. We travel over 120 days a year and stay in many hotels around the world. We have never received so little for so much.

First of all, the hotel prides itself of being “The Next Level of Clean” . They claim to have “introduced The Next Level of Healthy Spaces for Your Vacation Stays” ? That is a so far from the truth that I do not want to use worse words than that.

One of the first things we were told at check-in that there is no room service. NO cleaning , no change of sheets, no emptying of trash. We can only ask for new towels (very nice of them…)/ We are fortunate of have our yellow fever shots because with no cleaning of hotels rooms and bathrooms and emptying trash, the hotel seems to us to be a health hazard. By the way special distancing is solely partially maintained
To be fair to the Surf Club, we checked other hotels in Aruba, and all had daily room cleaning !!!

Unrelated to that, the rooms and public areas are dated and a far cry from other Marriott resorts. I can easily compare the rooms to a Day’s Inn motel standard in the US. I will however give the hotel credit for a well-equipped kitchenette.
Service is nonexistent. Prior to arrival we texted the hotel (they communicate by text which is nice) asking for 1 set of hard pillows and to separate duvets for 2 persons (instead of one king duvet). That was acknowledged promptly. When we arrived the next day, we did not find either. We texted again. A guy showed up with 2 soft pillows, multiple sheets, and a blanket. We told him that we did not ask for that. The guy replied, “this is what you get” and walked away in anger. We texted again and finally received 2 king duvets(also we asked for 2 single/double or queen size) but same standard soft pillows.

Whoever is not aware, the hotel has no restaurants so no breakfast and no meals. The next alternative is the third-party beach restaurants . After 2 dinners there we can share that those are tourist traps. Real low-quality food.

Bottom line, if we could have left the next day we would have done so. Nevertheless, we shortened our stay to the earliest we could leave and forfeited the large number of points spent on this disgraceful resort. My brother-in-law paid close to $ 600 a night for a single room. Crazy considering how low quality the Surf Club is. A total disgrace for a brand which we are Platium members.

Room tip: No idea how it got a 4 star rating

We are deeply saddened to hear about your experience and apologize that the covid protocols in place to keep our owners and guests safe did not meet your expectations. All Vacation Club ownership resorts such as ours include villa renovations at least every 5 years per the COA budget. We again apologize the decor was not to your preference. Your comments will all be reviewed by the appropriate leadership teams, and we do hope for the opportunity to host you in the future.
