I am currently here at the hotel (3/21/21) and leave tomorrow. This is my first time staying at the Marriott Surf Club and will be back. Thank you to all the staff who made this stay such a wonderful and relaxing experience.
First, addressing the current COVID requirements, they do a fantastic job. All the staff are masked and ready to clean with spray bottle in hand. There is a voice prompt every time you enter the building to reminder you to mask up before entering. There are signs on the elevator, one person/family per lift. There are signed everywhere reminding you to wash your hands frequently as well as touchless antibacterial hand liquid. I don't know what else they could possibly do to to be sure you have a safe stay!
My room was a queen w/pullout couch and kitchenette which contained microwave, coffee maker, toaster, utensils, Every room has a balcony (which I take full advantage of during the whole trip). It is located on the beach, so depending on your room, a short walk to have sand under your feet. There is also a safe, iron/board.
READ the COVID updates on their website! It is always being updated and explains the rooms are not addressed on a daily basis. However, the staff can always be found in the hallways with their carts, cleaning or turning over a room if you need something (ie it is not like they only appear once a week). Also, the bathroom had more than enough fluffy towels for me to last a few days.
The grounds are extremely clean and well maintained. Although I only relaxed by the Serenity Pool (over 18/21?), there are several others to choose from; a huge lazy river, a large family style pool, and a kiddie pool. There is a swim up bar and an onsite cafe.
If you choose to get a COVID test on site, bring your PASSPORT! I am not sure it is directly related to the Marriott or the company running the testing but the confirmation email says to bring an ID and lists the choices (not specifically 'passport'). When I arrived, they would only take a passport even though I pointed out the confirmation email to them, so I had to schlep all the way up to my room to grab it. Also, you need your room key as proof you are are a guest, and it is appointment only, so give yourself a good 48 hrs and book it online (and there is still a line to wait in. More than one person gets a time slot so be a few mins early). Last point, if you haven't been here before it is tucked away. I had to ask two different people directions to find it as there is no signage. The waitress was more than happy to to walk me directly there. I wish I knew her name because she took the time away from her work to do so.
Only complaint dear Marriott people: when the staff turns down the pool chairs (and sanitizes them) at night when the pool is closed, take away the purple chair tags. So many people leave them on a chair overnight so they don't have to wake up early to grab a chair (which wouldn't be necessary to claim a chair at 6 am if everyone just observed the rules). The staff will get complaints, but the visitors will only 'forget' their tag once.
I can't wait to return and will be sure to refer all my family and friends to this facility. You are on vacation, enjoy it! Don't sweat the little stuff!
