Situated in Pietermaai, Willemstad,Curacao, is the Boutique Hotel BijBlauw. It is more than a Boutique Hotel it becomes your home, owned and managed by husband and wife Tita & Ruud van Dijk, you are made welcome the moment you step foot in the door,
You become a guest of the family treated by the owners and staff alike as friends, you are made to be part of a family.
The hotel has a ground and first floor, there is no lift so you do have to climb up the stairs unless you have one of the few ground floor rooms, ( I must point out that as this is a listed building and so the owners are very limited on what changes can be done) If you wish a room on the top floor make sure you are ok climbing stairs. We stayed in the front studio which faces on to a busy road, but after a couple of days you don't notice the noise,( well we did not) then there are 3 more smaller rooms and another large studio apartment facing the Caribbean sea.

The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, and I can recommend the restaurant for all meals; there is something on the Menu for everyone. If you decide to have your evening meal it is recomended you make a reservation as dinner is popular at this restaurant, plus you get a lot of walk ins, and some of these walkins are more than two people at times.
The beds and rooms are clean and comfortable, there is a safe and coffee machine,Wi Fi TV's and A/C provided, if there is anything you need extra just ask, they do their utmost to oblige.
For us our stay at BijBlauw is and was memorable for all the right reasons, as it could be for you.
For anyone with disabilities, do check first with the hotel before making any decision to comfirm or make a booking.

We enjoyed our stay at BijBlauw. We took our 3 teenage boys and stayed in the 2BR suite with a large balcony overlooking the ocean. The food was delicious for adults. The food isn't very American teenager friendly though. Expensive, complex and small portions. We chose to eat ate out at various restaurants around the neighborhood (Petermaii). There are so many good choices. The balcony has plenty of seating for a big group but the area by the TV only had a small couch. They brought us up another chair but it was still uncomfortable for family movie night. The staff was so nice and we appreciated the extra efforts made by Nick and Barry. All of the staff are kind, energetic and responsive. If there was a problem or request, it was taken care of within minutes.

The SCUBA lodge is right next door and they did a great job in getting the entire family PADI Scuba certified.

It is within walking distance of the port. This is small boutique hotel staffed by friendly Dutch people. It can get noisy in the at neighborhood at night. We were okay with that as it comes with the location. There is no beach on the premises and it costs $10pp/day to use the beach at Avilia resort nearby. The pool is small and cold. It is probably more for decoration than for functionality.

We loved the island and our stay with BijBlauw. Hope to be back again.

Nearly every place on the island takes USD.

Bit of a late review but stayed at this lovely boutique hotel end of January 2016. The people who manage and work there are fantastic - very kind and accommodating. The room was perfect and the location superb as we walked into the restaurant/shopping/port area daily. We also had a rental vehicle and parked for free just out front and saw the entire island. The restaurant at the BijBlauw is very good with an amazing atmosphere as you overlook the ocean. I would definitely recommend you stay here as you won't regret the experience. Thank you BijBlauw for being part of our memorable stay in Curacao. LOVE it there! Michelle & Shawn

We couldn't make the flights work out to get us to Bonaire in a single day so we stayed on Curacao at the BijBlauw for a night at each end of our trip. The front desk and restaurant staff were wonderfully friendly, helpful and caring. They arranged for taxi pick up at the airport. We had two different rooms on the first floor - both clean and elegant, in a simple, uncluttered way. They provided us with a free welcome drink (not alcoholic) which felt nice after the 30 minute taxi ride from the airport. The view from the two level bar/dining waterfront area is lovely - sea spray and then some was hitting the lower level on the first day we arrived but the second time we were there it was open and folks were dining there. So the hotel is on the waterfront, but there is no beach to speak of. You can see tankers and cruise ships entering and leaving the nearby harbors. Easy walk to the "swinging lady" (bridge), touristic shops, cafes and restaurants.

Room Tip: We had rooms 2 & 3 - first floor and near the bar/eating area. We were worried about noise but it wasn't an issue.

We spent one week at Bijblauw and our room was located on the main floor, actually right on the open terrace. Noise was not an issue once we closed our windows. The hotel is perfectly located for a 5 minute walk into Punda and a block away from bars, restaurants and clubs. It is located in the re-gentrified area of Pietermaai, so there are some buildings still in ruin but that did not detract from the beauty of the area. We were also able to walk 35 mins to Mambo beach on a daily basis as part of our exercise routine. Parking could be an issue on nights when there is a lot of activity in the area, but the security guard, Peter, was nice enough to tell us two ladies when he thought a more secure park would become available, so we could scoot back out to move our car. The front staff, especially Marleen, Anneroes,Britt, Edward were very friendly and helpful. There was a water main break on the day we were going to a wedding so they called a nearby hotel to get us a room where we could shower and change. Luckily the water came back on in due time to get ready.
The ambiance at the Bijblauw restaurant was excellent. The sound of the ocean crashing on the rocks and the view of the ocean while we dined was wonderful. Note: you do not need to be a guest at Bijblauw hotel to dine at the Bijblauw restaurant. The service at the restaurant does need some improvement (being used to North American style service) but we put that down to a need for training for one staff member. However, Jacqueline, who was one of our servers at the restaurant, was very attentive to our needs. The front staff, Marleen, Anneroos, Britt & Edward were all very friendly and helpful. There were a couple little issues here and there but those were promptly resolved. I intend to return to Curaçao for a visit and will stay at Bijblauw on my return.
