“What a wonderful memory to take back!”
Reviewed 17 July 2012

This by far was the best experience I’ve ever had, anywhere. We were picked up promptly at our hotel in an air conditioned shuttle. We went to the desk and paid for our Excellence Package. I made my reservations directly through their web site, where they answered any and all questions I had. They required no money at that time, which made it much easier for me to make a reservation.

After paying you were given an overview of what is to come. First we watched the parrot show. This was cute and entertaining. We were then taken to get our picture with a huge sea lion kissing us on the cheek. We were then fitted for our life jackets and change. They had free lockers available for all your belongings. No cameras, jewelry, hair ties are allowed in the water, since they could be a danger to the animals. All you needed was your bathing suit and flip flops. We watched a video on what we were going to do with the dolphins. There was to be 10 people in our group, but I it was not filled, so there were only 6 of us to 2 dolphins – yeah for us!

We got to touch the dolphins numerous times. We then got to kiss and dance with them. We swam out into the water and they jumped over us. We also laid on our back and they spun us around. We got to do a dorsal fin swim and a foot push. That is where I basically stood right up out of the water. All along we were also educated by the trainers who were truly in love with the animals and their work. After the dolphins we got to dry off and watch a sea lion show.

They did take pictures and video of everything that you did. Yes it is a little pricey, but you can’t put a price on how you felt. It was $40 for the video (you can easily skip over the others in your group) and like $100 for 12 photos. My son even hugged me to say ‘Thanks Mom, that was great’. I would do it again tomorrow. Thank you for a wonderful memory Dolphin Encounter!

“Expensive but fun.”

The experience with the dolphin was great as was the bird and sea lion shows. but at these places they try to get every last dollar from you. Note that there are no posted prices for photos and DVDs. They negotiate with each customer so be ready.

“Well worth it”
Reviewed 14 July 2012

We thought we just got to swim with dolphins but there are shows and pics with sea lions too. Staff are fantastic, Swimming with Dolphins is the best thing i've ever done.
The only bad thing about this place is the fact that the photos are $10 each

“Dream come true!”
Reviewed 12 July 2012

We visited Punta Cana for our honeymoon and it had always been my bride's dream to swim with dolphins. There were several different companies to choose from, but at the time, Dolphin Explorer had the highest ratings on tripadvisor, so we decided to check them out.

The company offered several different packages (or programs as they call them). We went with the "Excellence" program (we paid about $175 per person).

What we enjoyed:
- Friendly staff. Everyone on staff was really helpful and seemed to be in a pretty good mood.
- Organized tour/visit. The entire day (about 2 to 2 1/2 hours from start to finish) was really well structured.
- Lots on the agenda. Besides the water time with the dolphins, the excursion provided everyone (regardless of what program you signed up for) with an exotic bird show, kiss session with a sea lion, and then a sea lion show.

What we disliked:
- Picture prices. Can't take pictures if both of you are wanting to "swim with the dolphins." They have tons of photographers and staff with video cameras who capture everything (and then sell to you at about $10/pic at the end of the day). There were some families who had members who just watched from the dock and were able to take their own pictures/video.
- Overall price. $175 a pop seemed pretty high. Like I said in the description, it was my wife's dream to do this, so it was definitely worth it for her. I enjoyed the excursion, but wouldn't have shelled out the cash if not for her wanting to go.
