Zoetry Agua Punta Cana

We had a magical experience at Zoetry Punta Cana for ten days in July 2011. We see it as a place that is primarily about relaxation, not so much about water sports or tours or partying (although the nightly Latin acoustic trio was incredibly talented and provided worthy dance music for the few who were inclined to dance). For relaxation, then, Zoetry was beyond wonderful. The resort is small, only about 100 guests when full, and completely gorgeous indoors and out, a place that clearly values the aesthetic experience of its guests. Even the housekeeping was done with extraordinary taste and flair. Importantly, we found it exceptional among all-inclusives in the unusual but important things that were fully included. And the food was fantastic in many, many instances.

I have celiac disease and am under doctor’s orders to eat rigorously gluten-free. I was, therefore, quite concerned about the food, and I could not recommend any resort (or nearly any restaurant, for that matter) to any celiac who is super-sensitive to gluten. But, if you are like me and do not react badly to rare instances of minor cross-contamination, then I can recommend Zoetry very highly as long as you get in touch with the manager of the hotel, Luis Fitch, in advance and again as soon as you arrive. His background is culinary, and he seems to fully understand the challenges of adhering to a gluten-free diet. Once he had spoken to his staff (whose comfort with English was very variable), they were extremely attentive and careful about gluten; I felt very much personally cared for. That is not to say that there were not small mistakes—I believe there were one or two instances of slight cross-contamination (e.g., a small garnish that contained gluten). But I am very confident that no major mistakes were made over the course of what amounted to 30 consecutive restaurant meals. With the gluten issue under control, I was able to enjoy unbelievably good food. Not every dish was fantastic by any means, but lunch and dinner almost every day had at least one or two courses that not only were shockingly good but beautifully, surprisingly, and even wittily presented. Service too was of very high quality, and I was frequently able to order off the menu, with the servers efficiently going wherever they needed to in the resort to get me what I wanted.

How many all-inclusives include laundry and international phone calls and room service in the price? It is amazing what a difference it makes to your level of relaxation when you can leave your laundry outside your door as often as you like, have it back meticulously cleaned and folded within 24 hours, and never have to think about cost. And, when you’ve left your kids for 10 days, it is huge to be able to call and check in without ever having to think about how often you call or for how long. Free internet too was very big for me.

Finally, we have to mention the housekeeping. The room was very large and very comfortable, opened onto a gorgeous pool, and seemed to be cleaned fresh every time we left. (We were in a "Junior Suite Agua.") And, skipping the details, let’s just say that every time we returned to the room, we found not just a clean and neat room but a completely charming and beautiful one, thanks to the creative talents of at least one of the housekeepers.

I have omitted some things we could complain about. The resort did not always fire on all cylinders; there were some glitches in a variety of areas. But I have also omitted many more wonderful things about our stay. Not a single one of the glitches or all of them together could reduce in any degree our happiness with our ten days at Zoetry. The experience as a whole was so wonderful that no collection of nitpicks could be worth a mention.

I like many others searched the reviews daily before our trip so I feel it's only fair to leave our input. We are in our mid twenties and travel a few times a year. This is by fair a wonderful all inclusive.. they don't skimp on anything and the staff is there to make your vacation wonderful. The place is very quite, the first day we thought we were the only couple there. By the second we met some very nice people! Its a couple retreat for sure. The food, staff, grounds, drinks are all wonderful. My boyfriend and I were planning on getting married there after our second day. Until we had some issues with our safe.. a couple days in a row we got paged by the mini bar stocker that our safe was open. We were very impressed by that as we thought we must have forgotten to close it. The next day the same thing.. it was a bit strange bc we both had double checked that it was locked. The a couple days later we came back after dinner and it was opened again and $20.00 was taken. This ruined it for my boyfriend as we felt no threat of stealing at this place. My boyfriend felt violated as the security made it seem like we didn't lock it or was mistaken. We weren't. The next day the offered to change our room and reimburse us the money. We declined as that wasn't the point. We really were looking forward to having our wedding there but my boyfriend left not being able to get past the room break ins.

I did get some bites one night but then woke a Clip and that worked the other nights to keeps the bugs away.

Overall, everyone should love this place just make sure to know what is in your safe.

Dear guest
Thank you very much for taking your time to share your experience at our hotel.
We are commited to deliver our best at all times, we are glad that you could feel our true sense of hospitality.
However I must explain the way our room safety-boxes operate and they are safe.
The OS400 ONITY safety can not be opened by our staff unless they are electronically opened by The hotel Managemen upon guest´s request.
This was not the case.
I am possitive that there has been a mistake on you perception.
We take your comments very seriously and acted immediately upon.

Thank you

After a tremendous amount of research, we decided on the Zoetry for our honeymoon, and we couldn't have been happier with our selection. We were looking for a more intimate setting to simply enjoy time together in beautiful and peaceful surroundings. We stayed in an ocean front suite with a plunge pool, and that splurge was well worth it. The room was apropos for a beach setting with a touch of luxury. As so many have said, the food was impeccable and there were plenty of choices made specifically for you - so much better than buffet style at larger all-inclusives. If it wasn't what you wanted - you just simply had to tell them and they would do whatever they could to please your palate (everyone's taste is different, after all). If you wanted an item from the previous menu, or even another restaurant, they would do whatever they could to give you what you wanted. (Definitely try the pumpkin bisque - it was the talk of the resort.) Room service was outstanding. This resort was so quiet and peaceful as you walked to breakfast or dinner through the gardens, sometimes it would feel as if you were the only ones there. You easily had the ability to have time alone, or if you chose, to get to know other couples or families. It was so interesting getting to talk with others at the lobby bar (the gathering place at night) ... as you learned they all felt the same - the stay/experience was truly what you made it to be. Some (including us) chose to experience everything they had to offer (the horseback riding, kayaks, snorkeling, wine dinner, spa, etc) and others chose to simply lay on the beach - but we all agreed the resort exceeded our expectations. It was also interesting in that you 'noticed' newly arrived guests - and witnessed others (or you) telling those newbies what a great place this was. The unexpected pleasure, as well as the jewel of the Zoetry are the staff members. The service managers and staff learn your name, learn your favorite drinks, treat you like a VIP and encourage you to get the full experience of the resort. They make your vacation personal, and you actually feel like you're leaving family at the end of your trip.

Some tips I would pass on to make sure you weren't caught off-guard are these: 1) Definitely bring mosquito spray (the fresh smelling kind) and just put it on before you head to dinner. Only one night (it rained a good part of the day) did the mosquitoes bother us, but there were others who noted them more. 2) Know that in the Dominican Republic - their air conditioning temp is different than the States - it will probably be warmer in your room then you think it should be. I heard couples from other resorts say the same thing. Same with ice cold drinks - may not be what you're use to - the ice melts very quickly in that environment and is a commodity - takes a little longer to get ice delivered to your room. 3) There are small gaps under the doors - tiny creatures can get in - it makes the trip memorable (we had a tiny crab in our ocean front room - but it ran out as we were trying to capture it's photo). 4) The dreaded vacation program men - Here's the deal - if you can't say "No" easily and walk away - then politely tell them you are NOT interested and to kindly not ask again. They will do as requested. However, we wanted to take the helicopter ride to Secrets as I wanted to see a little more of the country side (plus I waffled between Secrets and Zoetry - and by the way - Zoetry was the RIGHT choice). But I also knew when we returned and they started doing their talk - we would have no problem in saying "Not interested - thanks for the helicopter ride!". We were out of the 'room' within 10 minutes by holding firm and not waivering. Others have a hard time doing that - so know yourself before you agree to anything. 5) If something isn't perfect - tell them about it - they will do whatever they can do fix it. Luis and his staff truly want you to have a great time.

Zoetry is not for everyone. Even though it's not adult only, I would never bring small children or teenagers there. And if you need to be entertained by casinos or clubs, this isn't the place for you either. But for those who desire a beautiful, peaceful, intimate setting, surrounded by good people and with good food, Zoetry is the place.

Room Tip: Our ocean front room was amazing - and because we preferred sitting on the beach versus the pool, it...

This was the best all inclusive resort I have ever stayed at. The food was fantastic, and the drinks were very good. The service was top notch and all of the staff were wonderful, accomodating and friendly. The property was beautiful and the beach was lovely. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. However, if you prefer heavy air conditioning and nightlife, this is not the place you want. This resort is very quiet and relaxing. The spa services were excellent. One negative aspect is the Mosquitos... You must use insect repellant.

The wife and I spend 8days/7nights at Zoetry Agua at the end of June.
In a word: AWESOME.
Getting to the resort required a 45minute bus ride through the country from the airport. Not a big deal. We were greated with a cool beverage and lots of smiles. the grounds were well manicured and lush (take a tour of the grounds with the head of landscaping if you get a chance). As far as the room, we booked one of the the beach front junior suites with the plunge pool. The view from our back door was simply georgeous. The room was incredibly clean (the staff cleans up three times per day). A chilled bottle of champagne and flowers were left on the table. Awwww. The shower, sinks and toilet were in pristine condition and everything worked the way it needed to. Our king bed was super-comfy and the linens/pillows couldn't have been better.
Service wise - magnificent. I've stayed at plenty of hotels and resorts and the service was just about perfect. Incredibly helpful and mostly bilingual.
Beach - clean beige sand and blue water (not crystal clear like other places in the carribean but very nice nevertheless). The resort is small enough that you don't have to worry about reserving your beach chair or worry about the dreaded 6am beach chair towel nazi (you know what I'm talking about).

I'm going to include the slightly negative comments in the middle of the review so as not to taint the initial impression or to ruin an otherwise steller review if I put the negative comments at the end. First, there are mosquito's...not too bad, but they exist. It's an island and the beach is near a jungle. Don't let that detract you from an otherwise super-awesome resort. Second, someone might invite you to a "special breakfast" to discuss travel time share stuff. Don't do it. Waste of time. Okay, that's the only negative stuff I had.

Pools - we were right next to the infinity pool. Clean and cool right next to the beach as well. The staff is constantly walking around ready to serve you drinks or food at the beach, at the pool, in your room or wherever you want.
Food and drinks - this is an all inclusive. It isn't buffet style though. You go to one of the three restaraunts and order from a menu or you call it in from your room at any time of day or night...as much or as little as you want. And let me tell you, it's all incredibly fresh and incredibly delicious. The filets, the lobsters, the egg's benedict, the Domincan Breakfasts, the pizza's, the ceviche...all of it. Awesome. Drinks were always cold. they mix a great pina colada and a miami vice (pina colada + strawberry daquiri). The wine selection isn't the greatest, but aside from that, you will not go long without a good drink.
Spa - we did a couples massage and it was solid.
Misc - we were able to relax in peace and quite as long as we wanted, all day and/or all night. At night if we wanted to let loose, the lobby bar was always hopping with couples and live music playing salsa and island tunes. by the way, we met some awesome other couples while we were there so the socialization aspect is there if you want it.

All in all, it was about as close to perfect as we could get! If you're a guy reading this and you're planning your honeymoon....this is the place. Seriously.
