We had a magical experience at Zoetry Punta Cana for ten days in July 2011. We see it as a place that is primarily about relaxation, not so much about water sports or tours or partying (although the nightly Latin acoustic trio was incredibly talented and provided worthy dance music for the few who were inclined to dance). For relaxation, then, Zoetry was beyond wonderful. The resort is small, only about 100 guests when full, and completely gorgeous indoors and out, a place that clearly values the aesthetic experience of its guests. Even the housekeeping was done with extraordinary taste and flair. Importantly, we found it exceptional among all-inclusives in the unusual but important things that were fully included. And the food was fantastic in many, many instances.
I have celiac disease and am under doctor’s orders to eat rigorously gluten-free. I was, therefore, quite concerned about the food, and I could not recommend any resort (or nearly any restaurant, for that matter) to any celiac who is super-sensitive to gluten. But, if you are like me and do not react badly to rare instances of minor cross-contamination, then I can recommend Zoetry very highly as long as you get in touch with the manager of the hotel, Luis Fitch, in advance and again as soon as you arrive. His background is culinary, and he seems to fully understand the challenges of adhering to a gluten-free diet. Once he had spoken to his staff (whose comfort with English was very variable), they were extremely attentive and careful about gluten; I felt very much personally cared for. That is not to say that there were not small mistakes—I believe there were one or two instances of slight cross-contamination (e.g., a small garnish that contained gluten). But I am very confident that no major mistakes were made over the course of what amounted to 30 consecutive restaurant meals. With the gluten issue under control, I was able to enjoy unbelievably good food. Not every dish was fantastic by any means, but lunch and dinner almost every day had at least one or two courses that not only were shockingly good but beautifully, surprisingly, and even wittily presented. Service too was of very high quality, and I was frequently able to order off the menu, with the servers efficiently going wherever they needed to in the resort to get me what I wanted.
How many all-inclusives include laundry and international phone calls and room service in the price? It is amazing what a difference it makes to your level of relaxation when you can leave your laundry outside your door as often as you like, have it back meticulously cleaned and folded within 24 hours, and never have to think about cost. And, when you’ve left your kids for 10 days, it is huge to be able to call and check in without ever having to think about how often you call or for how long. Free internet too was very big for me.
Finally, we have to mention the housekeeping. The room was very large and very comfortable, opened onto a gorgeous pool, and seemed to be cleaned fresh every time we left. (We were in a "Junior Suite Agua.") And, skipping the details, let’s just say that every time we returned to the room, we found not just a clean and neat room but a completely charming and beautiful one, thanks to the creative talents of at least one of the housekeepers.
I have omitted some things we could complain about. The resort did not always fire on all cylinders; there were some glitches in a variety of areas. But I have also omitted many more wonderful things about our stay. Not a single one of the glitches or all of them together could reduce in any degree our happiness with our ten days at Zoetry. The experience as a whole was so wonderful that no collection of nitpicks could be worth a mention.
