A lovely restaurant right on the water. The construction was far superior to most Guadeloupe waterside restaurants and the service was the best we encountered. The waitstaff really hustled, which we appreciated after experiencing extremely slow service at many local restaurants. The food was excellent. We cannot recommend Le Poivrier too highly.

From our friendly greetings, the perfection of the setting ( on the beach next to the 5 or 6 simple, bobbing fishing boats) and our wonderful table ( near the view, fabulous breeze and shade) to the excellence of the service and food - it felt like heaven. The reviews are right and the food is fabulous: unusual, elegant with wonderful flavours (orange flavoured black pepper corns were exotic and an absolute treat)

Dinner for 3 at le Poivrier. This place was booked all week, so we finally lucked out on a Thursday evening. Beautiful restaurant on the lagoon with white curtains and local paintings. The food and drinks were good but seemed like they were trying too hard at times. For example, the fish carpaccio came with a hand held mortar for you to grind an Asian pepper as well as a passion fruit flavored butter while it could have simply benefited from more acid and heat. The shrimp farfalle tasted too rich for an appetizer. The daurade was tasty. The concept of a baba au rhum is brilliant on an island that actually produces Rhum but again the baba didn’t have that yeasty delightful texture and was drowning in whipped cream.
The entire restaurant is manned by two waiters and one of them is also the host and he makes the drinks. These 2 literally run non stop the entire time. Unfortunately with a full restaurant, the wait ends up being too long despite best efforts.

Our hotel receptionist didn’t recommend Le Poivrier, saying it would be a bit dark at night and not as nice as other local spots. We opted for a quick lunch here over dinner. The food we had was decent, although the menu was small. The vegetable terrine was tasty and fresh. Having vegan and vegetarian options is important to me. The service was slow, but it’s not different than any other island spot. We were glad we didn’t do a dinner here, but would recommend lunch.

We went there three times in our two and a half week holiday - that should say it all. Modern French cooking with an asiatic twist. I loved the fish dishes, my husband the meat, Service was excellent - friendly and professional. The third time we went, we were greeted like old friends. Book ahead to get a table directly overlooking the sea. Excellent value for money.
