We thought this place was terrific. The staff is very friendly and accomodating, the facilities are in good shape and the food if not haute cuisine, is generally excellent. We had excellent tennis instruction from a visiting pro. Overall an excellent value and a good time.

This was our 11th time returning to Sans Souci. We first visited this hotel when Grand Lido owned it. Over the years, there have been many changes, but a few things remain the same: it's classy, with peace and tranquility – and of course the general manager.

Our experience was initially negative. Please let me explain. When we booked our room, I called the reservations department directly at the hotel to make sure our room (G-11) was available. Of course they said they would do their best (which is the common answer we always reeceive). We also confirmed with reservations that the room would be finished with their renovations. I called about two times a month to make sure that our room would be available, and I was always told that the rooms were complete and they had us as a repeat client for G-11. Two days before we arrived (right before hurricane Dean graced the island with his presence), I was told that the block of G-11 was still under construction. Had the resort been up-front with me initially, we would have booked our vacation at a later date. For 11 years, we always have stayed in suite G-11. It is the quietest room at the resort. I kept names of everyone I spoke with in the process of confirming our room, and when we arrived, lets say that my husband and I were questing weather or not we were going to leave the hotel for another resort. It was unprofessional at best. My husband and I are not a one-timer at this hotel and I expected a lot more from the staff at reception (and the manager in charge of reservations) than what we received.

After 4 hours of trying to get the quietest room in the hotel (at this point any room), they gave us "what we paid for" a room with an ocean front view. That really is all we wanted, but not want we asked for 7 months earlier. Unfortunately, our room was over the lobby and had we known this would have happened, less two days before our arrival, we would have cancelled our reservations.

This hotel is known for its quality of service, peace and serenity: not to mention romance. We were quite disappointed. The management does try to fix its errors. After speaking with the assistant general manager about our situation (4 days into the vacation), he tried to make amends, which is acknowledged but doesn't make up for the situation that occurred. When we vacation at Sans Souci, it is for 10-14 days. Needless to say, we have spent a lot of money at this hotel and question if we will return because of the problems that occurred. It may seem simple to many, but we continue to go to Sans Souci for its impeccable service.

The staff was efficient, with the exception the reservation desk, and most seem to be learning their way. Many of them remembered us (from the manager at Casanova to the bartender at the main pool and most importantly, the magnificent staff at Charlie’s Spa).

Years ago, when we first vacationed at this resort, Casanova had a jacket policy. Now there is wicker for chairs at the restaurant and only pants, and closed shoes are required. Quite a down play from what we once experienced. However, the management and staff try with what rules they are given and it shows.

The main pool bar is delightful and professional which can be attributed to the staff for a job well done.

Charlie's Spa is fabulous and those who don't splurge on this retreat are truly missing out. Yes it is expensive, but simply one of the finest spa's I have ever visited.

Room service was great; we ordered every day, for breakfast, a snack and for late night munchies (with bottles and bottles of champagne and wine).

The mineral pool was "out of commission" again. Last year when we visited the resort it wasn't working, and after the hurricane, they closed it down for a complete renovation. So, for two years we didn't get to experience this wonderful pool. Odd, how when Couples took over the resort, the usual accommodations were simply not met.

The hotel is still romantic, quiet and blissful. We are in our 40's and go to "get away" from the rest of the world. We try and remind ourselves that this is a third world country and not our own. With that said, we are questioning if we are going to return to our beloved Sans Souci this year.

We understand that with change there are growing pains, but after spending more money at Sans Souci than a house, we expected a little more respect than what we received.

Over the years, we have recommended many couples to this resort. However, after our most recent trip, we are somewhat cautions and reluctant to say, "pack your bags and have a great holiday."

With that said, the general manager Pierre should be applauded for what he has done over the years with the property changing hands and staff constantly coming and going. He can't be aware of every incident that is caused by his staff. Every year he acknowledges us with a gracious smile. We never attend the repeaters dinner, why? Enjoy a wonderful and quiet dinner with your spouse.

This review is long, but we wanted to share our experiences with those who are trying to make up their mind on the many resorts they have to choose from. If Sans Souci is able to grow out of their recent merger with Couples, we will consider returning. We will continue to read the credible reviews on Trip Advisor (some I wonder if they even visited the hotel), and if the returning clients find it as wonderful as we once did, we will definitely re-consider.

We still had a wonderful time regardless of our room and the situations that occured. The grounds are beautiful and the staff efficient and professional. Keep your own open mind when reading reviews. Eveyone experiences things differently.

We booked our 5 night trip directly with Couples which included airfare as well. After going through customs we went to the Couples' lounge to check in and have a Red Stripe(or two). We really did not have to touch our luggage again until we reached our room. From the lounge we headed out to board our bus for the ride to San Souci. It's about 2 hours with stops and all. Arriving at night time was the one down side but alas there was one great place to eat the Bella Vista. This is the one we liked best.
Our room newly painted which you could smell, was still awesome! This was a "basic" room. It had 2 wall mounted TV's one in the bed room and one in the sitting room. A furnished balcony where we enjoyed our room service dinner one night. The bathroom was huge with an open tiled shower as well as a tiled bench. Room service everyday!
Food: In general the food to us ran from good to great! The outdoor buffet they had was out of this world!
Amenities: Many different non-motorized water activites. As well as scheduled activites. Then there are the tours. Bear in mind though you have to make reservations for some restaurants(guys bring one pair of slacks) as well as booking for the trip to Dunn River Falls and shopping. So it is wise to check in on those as early as possible. We had no problem. We even did the nude beach once which is separate but well set up.
Down side: Steps. Lots of steps. If you have a problem with going up and down steps San Souci is not for you.
All in all we enjoyed ourselves immensely. San Souci is not a 5 star resort but we had 5 star fun there!

We are seasoned travellers. This resort is advertised as 5*. I say good 4* . If one expectect luxury similar to the Couples brochure, that you will be dissapointed.

It is a solid 4* quite, intimate resort.. General consensus was, that resort is a bit worn-out. Only 2 restaurants for dinner and they make you wear "formal wear" which belongs to Ritz Carlton property, maybe. Food is good, pastries are exeptional.

Staff should pay more attention to cleanliness of beach area, which includes chairs and plastic mattraces.

Staff is happy and courteous.. We had a good time, but nobody likes when upon the arrival one realizes that resort is over rated.

There are actually FOUR (4) dining options at night. and TWO restaurants for lunch also (room service is offered for lunch)

Our fine dining restaurant Cassanova where dress code is Casual/elegant. Men must wear long pants and collared shirt. No jeans or T shirts are allowed.

Pallazzina restaurant is a little more casual. Dress shorts and polo shirts are acceptable.

And our Bellavista restaurant more Jamaican Cuisine is casual.

We also offer dinner in your room - or for an extra charge a private dinner on the beach or around the property.

This was our best vacation ever. Between us, we have been to many resorts in Jamaica and the rest of the Caribbean, but this resort was by far the best!

We were in A block overlooking the pool and the beach. Apparently it was one of the older rooms but we loved it. It was a suite, so you can close out any noise from the hall, the bathroom is all in marble, and we could see the beautiful ocean from our bed. What more could you ask?

The food and the service was amazing. We especially liked the Casanova restaurant. We had 6-course dinners with beef tenderloin as tender and flavourful as I have had anywhere to lobster tails and great desserts. Gifston and Sanya made our experience so nice, and every morning we were greeted by Conrad's big smile as he made our omelettes to order. Getting reservations was never a problem.

We really enjoyed the house band, Serenity, that played songs with a Jamaican flavour and also beautiful ballads to dance to under the stars each evening. On top of that, other acts and entertainment were brought in each evening.

It is small but it is clean and the water is warm. We really enjoyed the floating mattresses supplied by Couples and spent a lot of fun time just floating in the gentle waves. There was never a problem getting chairs.

Just beautiful and very lush. Lots of stone pathways (and stairs) with flowers and tropical vegitation and interesting areas to explore. There were pools and hammocks spread out around the grounds. Very romantic setting.

One thing I really wanted to do was learn to sail and I was afraid the hobeycats would be too big for me to handle. But Christopher and Sean gave me lessons (for free) and then after that they let me take the boat out by myself. Awesome! We also enjoyed the kayaks and hydro-bikes.

The staff were just incredible. Always smiling and friendly and offering help in any way they could. Special mention to Renna at reception.

Final Thought

We would highly recommend Couples Sans Souci to anyone who wants a truly romantic, wonderful time. Can't wait to go back!
