Romantic, candlelit dining in a cave -- who can pass that up? Apparently, someone with claustrophobia! Before I booked this place for dinner, I had seen several photos of beautiful tables set up right along the water, in a cave with high ceilings. Looked fantastic. When we got there, we were taken into a dark, small, enclosed cave. There was zero airflow and it was really hot. It was still beautiful - candles, the sounds of waves crashing in - but entirely uncomfortable. I had to keep leaving the cave to get air. I would love to do it again in the other cave! I guess there are three. As far as food & service, it was all good! They even had a birthday cake with candles for my husband.

Dear Jillopy2014

Thank you for reserving our cave dining experience and for taking the time to provide your feedback. We are truly sorry your experience was not quite as you imagined. Our cave dinners are lit with dozens of candles all over the rocks to enhance the magical experience of the cave but we are careful not to overdo it and for the many of guests that have dined with us we have not received that feedback, although we do appreciate yours. We also provide fans to make the experience as comfortable as possible. Let us know when you are ready to book again and we will arrange for another cave dining experience in an alternate cave. We look forward to hearing from you.

I could go on and on about the unusual and delightful physical and architectural properties of this resort -- the cliffs, the absence of beach, the caves, the meandering staircases up and around, and of course the exquisite luscious blue waters.

For people going to Jamaica and wanting to be on the water but not with the sunscreen slathered mobs laying on the beach, the Caves is a perfect retreat. With only 12 rooms in about 10 bungalows spread across the length of the resort, guests have privacy and quiet, but can socialize with others at the dining areas should they wish. The staff is unbelievably generous. Always ready to bring you refreshments wherever you might be on the property. Paul will take you on a personal snorkel whenever you'd like. When we had a medical situation, the manager was available calling nurses and doctors, and assisting us all along the way. The food comes fresh from the owners' farm in the hills. The food is superb (but not sophisticated continental cooking -- primarily delicious local cuisine.) This is not a luxury Ritz Carleton experience -- if that is what you are looking for. It is casual, warm, welcoming, quiet, and spatially special beyond your wildest imaginations.

only two minor discomforts -- for some reason our shower water was never hot and because it is all inclusive, including liquor, there were a couple of people who were louder than I would have preferred.

Room Tip: Waking up to a water view is the best

Just returned from an incredible week here celebrating my wife’s 50th. Beautiful spot that is an engineering marvel, reminiscent of the historic Polignano a Mare in Italy. So many quaint, quiet relaxing places to lounge. Food was excellent, always something unique on the menu and the staff is always willing to make something off menu should you so wish. Other couples are respectful of your privacy are very engaging and fun with once you approach for a conversation. Great mix of couples from their late 20s - early 60s, from the States and UK. Rooms were rustic but very clean and comfortable with nice beds, we actually enjoyed them a lot more than we thought we would. Stayed in Two Birds, garden side with a very private outside shower which was different from any other room we have ever been in. The Caves staff went out of their way to make my wife’s birthday special with chocolates left in our room and a candlelit dinner in the cave ending in a personalized birthday cake, candles and all and Glynn singing happy birthday. Couldn’t ask for more. Special thank you to Glynn, Elvis, Jamoin, Orean, Paul, our lovely room attendant and the always smiling greens keeper, and everyone else whose name we have missed, each of whom went out of their way making sure you were having a wonderful time, RESPECT! Even more than the spectacular facility and wonderful food, it is the long tenured team of very genuine professionals that sets The Caves apart. A lot better value than some of the large heavily advertised super resorts. Easy to see why some of the couples we met there were on a return visit. If you are looking to get away to the Caribbean as a couple and have good mobility, do yourself a favor and book now!

Great trip. The staff is wonderful, attentive and you will want for nothing. You won't find a better place to unplug and relax. The food was fantastic also. If you visit make sure to snorkel and kayak to get a feel of the area.

We had a nice time at the Caves and there are many wonderful features about this hotel. The first being the lovely staff and the second being the stunning location. It is a very peaceful place. There are a few drawbacks that we experienced. The major one being the challenging physical layout of the resort. I was pretty nervous accessing the stairs to the bar, hot tub and sea. No railings and steep steps. The water was choppy so I couldn't access the water. The pool is small and no substitute for the sea. However we turned this around by venturing out and seeing more of the island. The staff set us up with a terrific taxi driver who took us around Negril and even to the south side of Jamaica. The hot tub, rum bar and cave dinner were slightly uncomfortable because the caves themselves are hot and muggy. Housekeeping was very good. We loved our room and the complimentary selection of CDs. The other guests were very standoffish. A simple "good morning" or "hi" would have gone a long way. All in all we are glad we stayed here but for us once is enough.

Dear Nadhub

Thank you for taking the time to review our property. We are sorry to hear that your experience was not quite as you expected in some aspects but your feedback has provided useful tips for us to work on. We can assure you that it perfectly safe the assess the bar, Hot Tub and sea, though we understand if you have an aversion to height you might get nervous. Our cave dinner is a very popular choice for our guests and is usually the overwhelming feedback is that is a great experience and a highlight of the stay. We do provide fans as part of the set up as we are aware it can get hot at times, this typically enhance the experience.

We appreciate candid constructive feedback.
