This boutique style hotel is simply lovely!! We stayed here prior to our Southern Caribbean cruise and found it to be delightful. It sits on a quiet street in Old San Juan, but within easy walking distance of shops and restaurants. The rooms are stunning! The public areas charming! The staff was gracious and very helpful. We loved every minute of our stay!

We love this hotel for its location in Old San Juan. On a charming neighborhood close enough to restaurants and shops yet far enough to feel like you are coming home at the end of your day.

The rooms have character, very much old world. As has been mentioned, they tend to be dark and not enough closet space. The bed is comfortable, and the shower is spacious. The bathroom furnishing have character, but some of it tend not to be too functional and wish it can be improved. For example, the mirror above the vanity is set a bit high for someone who is on the shorter side (5'3) and the edges have some design. It makes it a challenge to properly see your face while putting makeup on.

Wifi is fairly good in the room we were in, which was next door to the reception.

There is no in-room safe, which would be nice to have to store valuables while out and about.

The roof top terrace is a nice place to hang out in the late afternoons. We do however missed being able to hang out with the cats from next door. We are cat lovers and were really looking forward to being able to hang out with the friendly kitties like we did when we stayed here a few years ago. It actually was the deciding factor in choosing to stay here again, so this part was a bit disappointing for us.

Overall though, we were happy with our stay.

Dear Pigsterz - Thank you so much for your raving comments, we have adopted a new cat today, him name is Ortencio. We gave him to a local family for their care and are very happy for him. We have some pictures I wish you could see him, son absolutely gorgeous! Our neighbor has relocated the cats and we have fewer visitors now. There are however many cats around the Hotel and they are so very friendly.

We hope to see you back soon!

Villa Herencia is absolutely beautiful - the common areas, my room, the roof deck. It is not a high-end, luxurious hotel but its charm, decor, and staff make up for it. My room was on the ground floor and quite dark and while it was possible to open windows I would have lost privacy. It didn't bother me too much, though. The room was nicely furnished, with an awesome painting (cool paintings throughout the hotel), a comfortable bed, and a very cute, spacious bathroom. Everything was very clean. The staff is extremely nice and so welcoming. The location couldn't be better - it's right next to El Convento, a short walk to Castillo San Felipe del Morro, and a very short walk to the heart of Old San Juan. I loved it and can wholeheartedly recommend it.

An interesting place. Our room had no window, was in the Spanish Colonial style (in fact it was probably built IN the Spanish colonial period!), and you can't ask for a greater location, in the heart of Old San Juan near the cathedral. That said the room was tiny, without space to even store our suitcases. Limited storage for clothes and very few dresser drawers. No restaurant and breakfast should be ordered the night before. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Our room was quiet (except for the tour group shouting hellos at 11 PM), Sooo - try it for charm but don't expect a lot of space.

Room Tip: downstairs rooms have no windows. Upstairs may have them but you would have to lug your suitcases up a long flight of stairs

Dear Den - Thank you so much for your great review! Indeed, the Villa dates to 1771 and the space and location provided are just what was planned for in that Colonial Era. We have built some efficient closets in the smallest rooms so you feel a little more space while taking advantage of every corner. We hope you visit us again and try some of our terrace rooms with balcony that opens to the roof top terrace.

We hope to see you back again!

This hotel B&B was not what I expected. I was pleased with the room and roof top terrace with the claw footed bath tubs to cool off after a hot PR sun. The breakfast was enough to get you started but not a full meal. My complaint no hot water, with that being said the water was cool in the afternoon it was refreshing in the AM it was uncomfortable. The bedding was very comfortable. This was a pleasant surprise and quite close to the fort. The best part of this B&B was the staff, amazing they did everything possible to make your stay perfect.
