Booked a last-minute trip to San Juan, and as a Marriott platinum member, I always stay at Marriotts. Traveling with my friend who enjoys casinos, so picked this hotel primarily for its location and it’s beautiful pool. Right off the bat, check in was a disaster, as a platinum member I can check in two days early and usually I have my room ready for me when I get here. I had said I would check in at three, I didn’t get here till after 3:30, and my room was not ready. My room was not ready until after 5 o’clock, and we were cutting it pretty close because we had 7 PM dinner reservations in old San Juan. The next day when going to the pool, there were no pool towels available. That was the theme for the whole five days I was here, was trying to get a pool towel. There were lots of people here with families and they were grabbing up all the towels, there was nobody there to kind of restrict the towels, and it was really a big production to try and get a towel. The two places that were open for breakfast, the buffet and the little café in the lobby, were understaffed, and you waited forever to get served. They did offer a mobile app that you could order ahead and pick up, which did not work the whole five days I was here. All of the ATM machines that were in the hotel we’re not working, or working sporadically. I had to change my flight and went to their business center, which consisted of two computers in the lobby, which did not work. I went to the front desk and asked and they said all those computers don’t work we don’t have a business center right now. A little sign or something on those computers would’ve been nice, what was I supposed to do if I couldn’t change my flight over the phone? Understandably because of Covid restrictions, they don’t come in every day to clean your room. However, they tell you that every third day they will come in and clean your room well that didn’t happen either. On the third day I had to go down to the front desk and ask about it she said oh yeah the third or the fourth day, and really by that point we only had one more day left here. I also attempted to call and get fresh towels and wash clause for the room, which was also difficult to come by. The first two days you really do want to give them a chance, because of Covid restrictions and we’re right not really sure how that is affecting service here, but speaking with people that have stayed here in the past pre-Covid have said that this has always been an issue in this hotel. I’m actually pretty surprised that they were this many issues at a Marriott. I’ve stayed at Marriotts literally all over the world, and I’ve never seen such poor management before. I would not recommend staying here just because it could be very frustrating when you’re looking to get certain services completed. The pool was absolutely beautiful and the staff friendly, but the management of the entire hotel was poor. I did like that there was a water bottle filling machine by the pool.
