We spent two nights at “The Domaine” as one stop on a two-week trip around Martinique. We stayed in one of the smallest rooms because this was all that was available at the time we made the booking. While the room was a bit small, this was definitely the biggest bargain of the four places we stayed on Martinique.
All the good things that other reviewers say about this place are true. The building, the grounds, the view and the location are all wonderful. The hostess is charming and helpful. WiFi works well but only in the reception area. This, we found, was generally the case in places we stayed on Martinique.
Like other reviewers, we were a little concerned that this place might be hard to find. We need not have worried. It is right on the main D7 road from Les Trois Îlets to Le Diamant. More specifically, it is one kilometer south of Anse-à-l’Ane … and it has a big sign outside which is hard to miss if you are driving South towards Le Diamant.
“The Domaine” has its own private beach. This is about a kilometer walk down a well maintained private path. The beach, when you get there, is mostly rocks. Given that you really do need a car to stay at “The Domaine”, you might as well drive the one kilometer into Anse-à-l’Ane, where there is a pretty little beach, parking, a couple of small restaurants and one of the ferries to Fort de France.
Before we left, we looked around one of the two mirror-image apartments called “Les Cannelles”. These are gorgeous, spacious and airy, with a large balcony and a view down across the grounds to the ocean. If we stay here again, we will try to book one of these.
Finally, one very curious fact about Martinique. In all four places we stayed, including one of the top-rated B&B’s on the island, precisely one pillow was provided per sleeper. And most of the pillows would disgrace a discount store in the USA. If we visit Martinique again for more than a few days, we plan to find out what it costs to buy a couple of pillows when we arrive!
