Landing at the Airport on Tortola I was a little nervous. Then we boarded a shuttle van to take us to the Little Dix Bay launch and I was almost in full panic. Then 1 rum punch later all the anxiety melted away. 30 minutes later we docked at the resort. From the moment we set foot on the dock I swore my wife and I had gone to heaven...Crystal blue water in a crescent shaped beach protected by a coral reef, white sand beaches and all the lodging hidden by the local fauna. Rooms perfect (absence of a TV was perfect), food couldn't have been better whether eating at the more formal Sugar Mill or the casual Pavillion...Staff was curteous and helpful, spa was ideal..worst part of the trip was watching the resort shrink in the distance as I sipped a rum punch on the launch back to the airport.

Room Tip: ! Bedroom Ocean View Suite is worth the extra couple dollars

My wife and I stayed at Rosewood Little Dix Bay in February 2011. We had always wanted to visit the Virgin Islands and we'd read good things about Little Dix on this site and elsewhere so we decided to book.

Arrival / Check In: This was mostly great. We connected in Puerto Rico to a flight into Tortola. Upon landing in Tortola we were met by reps of the resort and driven to the boat dock, where we boarded the boat for the 20 minute ride directly to the resort. We were checked in while on the way to the dock so when we arrived at the resort we were able to go right to our room. This is a nice little touch that more resorts would be wise to consider if possible - avoiding the front desk is always a nice thing. In our arrival package we would have expected to see a full list of all the activities we had planned, but there was only a spa confirmation. We called the front desk for the itinerary once in the room and they brought it maybe 15 minutes later.

The Room: We were in an oceanview room, the 2nd least expensive room class. The room was fine, if not a bit dated in parts. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was spacious. We were a very short walk from the beach. You fill out a pre arrival form where you can indicate certain drinks and food you want in the room. We should have asked for more snacks because the mini bar doesn't come with any. We're pretty certain we also asked for some booze to be in the fridge but it wasn't there. They do give you a bottle of rum for the room which was a nice touch, and they change out the ice twice per day. There is free wi-fi for one device, but you have to pay extra (i believe, please correct me if I'm wrong) for wi-fi on another computer. If this is correct they should consider making it free for as many computers as you have.

The Beach: The beach is very nice, about a half mile long, with beautiful and calm turquoise water. There were plenty of beach chairs available when we were there, no need to get up early to stake out a spot.

The Pool: Pool was nice and not that crowded most of the time. It would be great if they could find somewhere to build an adults only pool.

The Food: We were very pleased with the quality of the food at breakfast, lunch and dinner. It was very expensive, however (breakfast buffet with tip includes was about 80 or 85 bucks a day for 2 people). We live in Manhattan and are fine spending a lot on food but even we thought the prices here were pretty up there, but I guess it's consistent with the entire resort, it is not cheap. I think they should consider adding an a la carte option for breakfast at a lower price point - if you are a big eater you definitely get value, but we are not, and so we definitely did not eat 85 dollars worth of food between the two of us. The buffet at breakfast is very good though, with a big spread of fresh fruit, smoothie station, omelet station, pancakes/waffles to order, etc. etc. We did lunch at the beach bar a couple of times and it was good. We did dinner at the Sugar Mill twice and were very pleased. The lobster tasting menu was a hit, as was the service. We enjoyed having pre-dinner drinks at the Pavillion bar and getting to know the bartender, Bill, who was great.

The Spa: The best thing about the spa was the location. It is truly beautiful. Sit at the pool before or after your service and take in the view. We'd recommend getting a treatment late in the day, but finish before sunset so you can then take in the sunset view from the spa pool with a glass of champagne. Neither my wife or I were blown away by the treatments we had but they were fine; we weren't really disappointed.

The Gym: The gym is one of the better gyms we've seen in the Caribbean. It is large and the equipment is in good shape. There were also several tennis courts at the complex which looked great also, though we didn't use them.

The Crowd: I'd say the typical guest at the resort while we were there would be a family with a couple of kids. There were also some older couples there on their own, and a few younger couples on their own.

Virgin Gorda: The island is really great; small but not too small. It is very approachable. We visited the Baths and would recommend that. We came out the other end and spent a couple hours on the beach, swimming in the ocean. I wanted to get there early but by the time we arrived it was about 9:30 in the morning and it was PACKED! I'd recommend trying to get there much earlier, maybe by 8am or so. It would be even that much cooler if you weren't there with hundreds of other people, which is clearly the norm for most of the day as it is a very neat attraction. We also would suggest having lunch at Hog Heaven one day. Amazing amazing views of neighboring islands and pretty good bbq. It was maybe a 15-20 minute drive from the resort.

Overall: This is a very nice resort and you really can't go wrong by staying here. We did think that we didn't necessarily got great value, but the service was good, it was beautiful, the food was solid and we had fun.

Room Tip: Look at the resort map on their website. We were in room 56 which was about a 5-8 minute walk each...

My husband and I along with our small son have travelled here twice before and already have third trip planned. If you really enjoy nature and want to feel connected to you surroundings, this place is for you. The rooms are lovely and very comfortable, and very close to the water. The beach is amazing, with comfortable loungers, built in shade huts, and beach service. Everything is very relaxed and low key. The service is friendly and warm, carribean style. More like staying at a good friend's house, not like a stuffy 5 star european hotel. Sharon and Jackie are so sweet! Dinner is dressy casual - you don't see a lot of highheels and heavy makeup if you know what I mean. More understated classy.
We used to go to Peter Island, but that place really isn't for children. If you are considering which one, I would say that Peter Island wins on food, beauty of island, beach and grounds, but has the problem of party boats coming and going all the time. Little Dix is more peaceful, boats can't come in, and the rooms and the beach are more comfortable - it's probably the better value. Both are really special.

Little Dix Bay was the nicest hotel we have ever stayed at in the Caribbean. The rooms were stunningly beautiful and private. The service and staff was exceptional. Everyone could not have been nicer or more helpful during our five day stay. They truly go above and beyond for you. For example: my girlfriend was sick our first day of the trip and a doctor showed up to our room within 15 minutes to check on her and prescribe medication. It saved our trip. At Little Dix they have great snorkeling in their bay, and have other fun water sports and activities available at the resort. There is even a waiter that strolls the beach during the day to take drink requests, and any others you may have to make your day more enjoyable. They make everything so special. One thing you MUST do at Little Dix is request a private dinner on the beach. It is the most romantic thing one can do while staying there. In fact, I proposed to my Fiance the night of our beach dinner. The moment was perfect. The food was wonderful, the service excellent, and the experience was one we will never forget.

Room Tip: ocean front cottage was amazing.....

My family just came back from 8 days at Little Dix bay. All I can say is wow!!!! - great food, great rooms, great beach, great service, and simply, a great resort. We have been to many of the finer places in the Caribean including Mustique, Anguilla (Cap Juluca and Malliouhana), and Jumby Bay, and I must say, LDB beat them all. While you get everything that you would expect from a first class resort like LDB, its the little things that separates this resort. From the sitting area overlooking the ocean right outside your massage room, to the flavored water in the gym, to the wonderful lady who brought my 2-year old daughter fresh aloe vera for her sunburn, this place can't be beat! This is why everyone goes back, as shall we.

Rosewood Little Dix Bay is currently closed for a comprehensive renovation and is scheduled to re-open in late 2017. The iconic Rosewood Little Dix Bay is currently closed for a comprehensive, multi-million dollar restoration, which will be the most substantial beautification project since the resort was founded by Laurance S. Rockefeller over 50 years ago. The restoration will include the complete redesign of the resort’s guestrooms and suites, its three restaurants and overall enhancements to the resort’s gardens and landscaping. New York City-based Meyer Davis Studio will lead the restoration, working alongside Miami-based architectural firm OBMI. Together these agencies will honor Laurance S. Rockefeller’s unique vision of a luxurious hideaway set amidst the pristine backdrop of Virgin Gorda. The renewal will bring about a new level of sophistication in keeping with the natural setting, whilst introducing brand new signature suites for the ultimate in relaxation and style. A rebuilt Beach Grill will offer a one-of-a-kind beach dining experience, while the iconic Pavilion and Sugar Mill buildings will remain intact but will feature extended indoor/outdoor dining areas. Guests will also enjoy an elevated arrival experience and the resort’s vibrant tropical gardens will be enhanced with new lighting, signage and improved access to Little Dix Bay beach. The renovation will also bring the addition of new restaurant concepts for The Pavilion, Beach Grill and Sugar Mill; new world-class amenities; elevated service standards and an increased focus on sustainability. Upon reopening towards the end of 2017, Rosewood Little Dix Bay will reaffirm its legacy as the Caribbean’s leading luxury resort. ... more   less
