My wife and I stayed here for a week on the 2nd leg of our honeymoon (FS Nevis for first part...see other review). LDB is a beautiful resort and unreal views. The beach is extremely quiet and the water so calm it is like a pool. I guess that is why there are hardly any people in the newer pool. No need, the beach is too nice!

The service was good but not overly outgoing. They kind of just leave you alone here, but if you want something the service was good...they're just not coming by your beach chair every 10 minutes asking if you need something. All the staff were very friendly and were very accomodating.

I recommend a beach drop for 2-3 hours with a nice lunch packed by LDB. We did the Mountain Trunk drop and the beach was secluded (not completely private) and very peaceful. The water is a little more rough here. We also did a full day snorkeling trip with a lunch stop at Willy T's floating bar. Great time and some of the best snorkeling I have done was at "The Indians" near Norman Island.

Food overall was very good and probably a little pricer for some. We did the "Best of Little Dix" package so we had some meals included. The private beach dinner was a great way to end our trip.

Wife and I enjoyed 10 days this June at this truly wonderful resort. We considered Caneel Bay, a sister Rosewood property we visited last year (and much enjoyed - rm 129 on Hawksnest beach was fantastic) - but the two resorts aren't directly comparable. At St John USVI - the island is the destination - and Caneel Bay is a wonderful place to enjoy eco-tourism to a high standard. Whereas, Little Dix Bay is THE destination on Virgin Gorda, BVI - where "eco-tourism" is to the highest standard and the rest of the island is a pleasant place to visit. Can't say enough nice things about our stay at LDB-- but will give it a try.

The property is manicured to an exception standard - the floral and fauna is a virtual botanical garden - beauty everywhere - where 100 units disappear into the landscape and are beautifully inconspicuous.

The beach is perhaps one of the very best in the Caribbean - over a half mile of crescent sand - with thatched canopy bohios for two - with cushioned lounge chairs and personal full body floats for bobbing in the clear warm water. Very good snorkling is to be found - with a small sea turtle family in the reef protected bay - sting ray and tropical fish. However -- the resort conducts day drops (complete with large beach umbrellas and lunch on request) to half a dozen or so exceptional and in most instances, private beaches - some with outstanding snorkling (mountain trunk , springbay, two very good ones). Boston whalers drop you off - and collect you at the hour of your choosing - giving you as much undisturbed private time at some of the most beautiful beaches anywhere.

There is an incredible DIVE and Snorkling program at LDB. All snorkling gear is complimentary for the duration of your stay. Intro diving held off the beach to two tank wreck diving is on offer. Dive BVI is one of the best operators. There are complimentary snorkling trips to many of the beaches around the island. Sunfish and small catamarans are there for your use - or lessons if required. Mercifully - not a jet ski to be found or heard!

There is a state of the art workout center - and tennis courts complex - again tucked away near the beach cafe.

The entire resort underwent an extensive and expensive rennovation and upgrading a few years ago - adding air conditioning to all rooms and decor more in keeping with an upscale beach resort. There are beach front rooms - most of which are nearly invisible from the beach - as well as many elevated (on stilts) rondetts - with balconies looking to the beach.

Food is best taken on one of the meal plan or packages offered. The Pavillion is the breakfast and lunch venue (beach cafe also for lunch) - with cooked to order breakfast or buffet that is exceptional. The Pavillion also serves dinner - via menu - over 10 days we tried almost everything -- between the two of us - at no time did we have a mediocre meal. The upscale venue is the Sugar Mill - directly on the beach - intimate - relaxed - refined atmosphere -- food here - was always first rate. On the meal plan you may select as many starters or main courses as you can handle -- the soups were out of this world - and deserts - those on the buffets and in the Sugar Mill menu were outstanding.

Service -- what makes a great retreat at a great location is more than the esthetics - and here enough good things cannot be said for the staff and management at LDB. From the moment we arrived the airport in Tortola (our bags did not) LDB personally met us - and while we checked in on the private water taxi to LDB - the LDB representative stayed at the airport until all flights arrived that evening - to collect our bags and deliver them late that evening - thank you! We found each and every person genuinely friendly and eager to meet any reasonable request that would make our stay as enjoyable as possible. Special thanks to Mark Sterner - and his entire staff for exceptional service. Lastly - we both took in two spa treatments - one the first full day on property and one at the end of our trip. A most unique and glorious setting awaits you there.

Our room -- 104 - a juior suite - larger than most apartments I recall at an earlier time - was incredibly comfortable - with an oversized porch with a three cushion sofa - three comfy chairs and cloth covered recliner - all overlooking the bay, beach and gardens. Each of us had our own vanity - there is a deep soaking tub and separate shower -- BUT - the main treat is the outdoor rain shower - surrounded by rock walls and floor - it is simply a personal delight to unwind standing under a rain hat shower - outside. While we were there - even though June being honeymoon month
we felt we had the property to ourselves - nothing was crowded at any time of the day - beach or property. Virgin Gorda is known for the "Baths" and for sure - take these in - but the day trip for the Springbay pinic was a special treat with outstanding snorkling in and around the boulders that comprise the complex of beaches.

We loved LDB - visited Biras Creek and Bitter End as well while there -- you cannot go wrong at LDB. Note to all -- the airlines are cutting back service to the Caribbean - book now!

Just a quick shout out for LDB in Virgin Gorda. The property and accommodations are lovely, service is impeccable, and spa relaxing. We enjoyed our 6 day honeymoon. Recommend creating a package here as food prices are through the roof and you'll save if you plan in advance. It's possible to get by on huge late breakfast until dinner. The food is good, but not fabulous. If you're a real foodie, you might be disappointed. If you're on your honeymoon, ask for upgrades - they can usually make it happen.

We stayed here for 10 nights late May-June and had an absolutely wonderful honeymoon. Truly did not want to return home!

My husband had previously stayed at the sister resort Caneel Bay; we chose LDB based on the Rosewood name. He enjoyed LDB much more (and not just because I was there!)

We flew into St. Thomas and took the air shuttle to the Virgin Gorda air port - essentially a shack with a dirt run way. Not necessarily the most comforting travel arrangements but certainly the most efficient. FLY BVI's pilots were courteous, especially on the return flight to St. Thomas.

LDB picked us up in a taxi from the Virgin Gorda airport (after we had begun having a beer at the Flying Iguana) and took us directly to our room, Jr. Suite on the second floor (to maximize our view!). The room was very clean, well appointed, and we loved the outdoor shower.

The beach was gorgeous - the water is so clear! We did a lot of snorkeling and relaxing in the sun under the little beach huts. It was great being able to order drinks and snacks from the nearby Beach Grill to be brought to you.

We went on the sunset cruise, which was fabulous and def worth it. We also took advantage of the beach drops and as a result enjoyed Long Bay all to ourselves - a private beach for a day! (If you're looking for seclusion, be sure to ask for a beach no one else is being taken to) - they even provided an umbrella for us. The snorkeling trip was fun too - at 45 minutes it's just about right for a casual snorkeler. We also took a taxi to The Baths and lucked out on a day where there were no cruise ships (you can inquire ahead of time at the activities desk). We took a short sojourn into Spanish Town, just to explore, and didn't find much there. Don't expect the usual upscale touristy shopping - it's a collection of a handful of smaller souvenir and clothing stores - we could have done without.

I was worried about the food given some of the reviews here, but overall it was pretty excellent. Certain dishes were hit or miss at times and there were a few disappointments, but overall I was very happy with the quality at both the Sugar Mill (where we ate most nights) and the Pavillion (we enjoyed the Grand and Asian buffets, as well as lunches and breakfast). Be sure to request one of the tables right next to the beach at the Sugar Mill. They also offer torch lit dinners on the beach.

Spa was so needed and just perfect. We got a couples message right off the bat to get us into relaxation mode. And the views are breathtaking! Be sure to get there early for your appointment to enjoy the cliffside pool.

Overall, I thought the resort and service were excellent. Everyone was friendly and helpful and while I kept expecting for everyone to be on island time, usually the golf cart arrived to take us to dinner before we were out the door! I really can't say enough good things about this place and we can't wait to return!

LDB is somewhere between paradise and nirvana. The beach is pristine; the imaculate gardens surround you, the rooms quietly elegant; the staff (all of them, to a person) are interested in your well-being warm, and friendly (ask a gardener to prepare a fresh coconut for you to drink); and the food excellent. The entire atmosphere gives this special eden a wonderful, warm, cared-for feeling of serenity and peace.

The day starts by walking the 60 feet from your never-locked door to the fine, but firm, sand, walking barefoot to breakfast buffet in the wall-less pavillon where you are greeted by multiple warm hellos. Then snorkling in the always-warm and gentle bay, or reading, or choosing between a walk or boat ride to Savannah Bay. Then lunch, another 4-star meal. I strongly suggest that you ask Shek what curry or sauce specials he has prepared for the day, followed by a 5-star dessert buffet. Time for an afternoon nap. Then, maybe swimming or sailing. Then cocktails on the deck, and dinner in one of two five-start restaurants. Then back to a wonderful bed and sheets to sleep before starting over tomorrow.

No televisions, no keys, no hassles, no night life, no noise. The world mercifully ends here.

Incredible. Highly recommended. Very highly.
