This hotel is very nice with the main draw being the long beautiful beach with large reef running just alongside. Wonderful snorkeling and swimming. Golf coarse looked really nice also but I'm not a golfer. Huge iguanas running everywhere. Lesley the taxy driver,by request, brought us coconuts of all maturities and cut them open for the kids. Was really fun. Water clear and cool. Saw turtle swimming right off beach feet from our room

Restaraunts nothing special. Pretty much all three the same so if you didn't like pina coladas at one you were out of luck cause all same. No other options within walking distance so taxi added up quickly. Botanical tours were wast as island is in severe drought. Also cruzan rum tour was a let down as it was down three months for maintenance. You'd think the hotel would know, but failed to mention. Was warm out around 85° and our room had AC but didn't work well at all. Worked the first day but after that the room was over 80° at night which was to warm for my liking. Should have called front desk but kept thinking that it would start working again or that was as good as it got. Ran into another couple on our last day that said they froze out in their room. That stung ha ha.

The BEST vacation ever, why? The Buccaneer employees are very kind and do everything possible to make your stay wonderful...I CAN'T say enough about how beautiful and enjoyable our stay was....It's very quiet but that is what we were looking for, if you need a relaxing vacation, this is it!! A shout out to Ortiz who took care of us on the beach, Erin who answered every question we had at the concierge desk and recommended great restaurants in town....Shontelle was so kind at breakfast and made us feel like not just hotel guests but family.....Che, friendly always smiling also a great part of the staff.....Clean, great service, great food, cold refreshing water for all on the beach...the water is amazing, turquoise and calm and Buck Island is a must!!!!!! 5 stars from our family!

Room Tip: Oceanfront best room....

Having been to a Caribbean Island before, we decided to try St. Croix (stayed on St. Thomas and visited St. John which were great by the way). That left St. Croix as a larger island and recommended by a travel agent...and were we very pleased with our decision! The cab ride from the airport was an experience and we never got used to riding on the left! We stayed at the Buccaneer and were very pleased.

The staff were VERY friendly, attentive and responsive. The island is experiencing a drought and the grounds needed watering very badly - no apparent irrigation for watering; the grounds were expansive and they provided bus service to move from the main area to the beach, etc. or you could walk the rather large hill if you wanted the self torture it provided!

Meals were very expensive in all three of the restaurants...a sandwich with fries would run $15 without beverage as one of the cheapest "meals" available; The food from the main restaurant was excellent and about what you pay for a very nice restaurant in the states...and don't forget to eat before the restaurants close as there are no pizza deliveries!

our room was beautiful and always kept clean...but as some reviewers have said the rooms do need some TLC to bring them up to a level justifying the nightly charges; We had a balcony with a table, four chairs and two lounges, but the fan was old and didn't work...on the third day we called and by the end of the day they had come out, checked it and replaced it with a new one! Awesome response! Yet, where is their maintenance crews check list and their rotating updating of the grouting, calking, deep cleaning, etc? Some reviewers saw bugs in their rooms, we saw none of that type of thing to even concern us...the rooms were kept clean and enjoyed them tremendously.

The views were amazing; the activities (golf, tennis, snorkeling, kayacking, volleyball, etc.) were plentiful. And with three beaches to choose from you could chose based on the size of the beach, type of sand/marine life, be by the pool, cuisine of the restaurant at two of the three, etc.

Shopping on the island was next to nothing compared to St. Thomas, or other touristy places. Restaurants/bars we recommend: Zion, Kendrick's at the Buccaneer resort, breakfast at the Terrace at the Buccaneer was consistent and plentiful, Bombay Club -weird but the steak was excellent but I can't say enough about the mashed potatoes! LOL.

We toured the Cruzan Rum distillery - 1-2 hours depending on how much you drink afterwards! We went out to Point Udall for overlook views of the ocean, visited both Frederiksted and Christiansted as well as historical sights, local museums and sights of interest.

In summary, we loved our relaxing vacation at the Buccaneer including our visit to the spa for a massage or pedicure. We are glad to have visited St. Croix and for meeting the people and staff that we did.

Room Tip: Our spacious room at the main area included a living room w/full bathroom and two closets! Great views easy access to main dining.

Because I was in the Caribbean I couldn't help quoting Captain Jack Sparrow, especially with how plentiful and delicious all of the rum drinks were. We stayed here on our honeymoon, so you may want to take that into consideration when reading this glowing review.

The service was unbelievable, from the front desk to the waitstaff to the cleaning staff. They were very helpful and friendly. They offer you a Rum Punch when you first check-in, what's not to love? The front desk was happy to accommodate us for a late check-out as well.

All of the restaurants had delicious food and the cocktails, especially at Kendrick's Lounge, were amazing. (I loved the Calypso Colada) Do not skip the key lime pie at Kendrick's Lounge, the taste is so fresh. If you are from NYC and are used to getting served quickly, just sit back and enjoy the live music. Your meal will get to you and it will be perfect, but it will not be in a Manhattan Minute. However, everything was worth the wait. Oh and do not sleep through breakfast, it's included and it's delicious.

The beaches were beautiful and the staff at the Beach Shacks were so nice. They had towels, beach toys for the kids and various floating equipment. We mostly stayed at the Mermaid Beach. The beach had waitstaff there to serve you cocktails or bar food as you sunned, the food was pretty good too. Our waitress the first day had fun bringing us surprise cocktails-- my favorite was the Cruzan Confusion. The rest of the times I stuck to what they called the Miami Vice-- a strawberry daiquiri and pina colada mix.

Rooms were nice enough, I loved our balcony. Bathroom was beautiful. Bed was a little stiff but, I napped on the beach anyway.

We found it a great place to unwind, without any of the pretense you get from some of these upscale hotels. I didn't want to leave!

Room Tip: get the ocean view rooms, the views are breathtaking

Chose this as our honeymoon destination due to the awesome reviews and amazing pictures online. When we arrived, they gave us rum punch and greeted us warmly. We were then told we were "upgraded" to a room closer to the water due to the lack of no king bed rooms. We gladly accepted this since a nice big roomy bed is pretty important on a honeymoon for relaxation. We got to the room and there were two queen beds on each end of the room. We called the desk and they stated this is the only room available so we accepted due to the beautiful view.

Fast forward a bit.. we started noticing a lot of things in need of TLC and that the tile hid the unclean floors really well. The mini fridge was barely cold and missing a leg so it wobbled and the door caught the cabinet, the bathroom fan timer switch was locked up and buzzed loudly (fan didn't work at all), the shower drain was slow and held up water, and the bathroom door would not stay closed and the lock was broken. The facility also needed a lot of TLC as well.. There was trash in the bushed below the lounge as well as plastic netting at the basketball area that was ripped and hanging loose.

The beaches were nice (except the third, secluded beach which was just miserable all around). The breakfast was very good and contained a large spread. Most of the staff was very pleasant and helpful (many of them very slow though..) and the resort is in a beautiful location. The restaurants were decent but very pricey. The average meal cost was around $25/person for mediocre food. Nowhere we went offered free soft drink refills either.

About our 4th night in my wife and I awoke very sweaty to a very warm and humid room around midnight. We quickly realized the ac went out. It was on and off throughout the week so it was bound to happen.. We called the desk and was told we would be moved into another room for the night and the ac would be fixed first thing in the morning. After waiting a half hour for the bussman to pick us up, we were told there were no rooms with working AC available and we had no choice but to just go to bed. This was a major inconvenience because of how it was handled.

The last major thing was the cockroach issue.. we're cool with most bugs you see in tropical areas but cockroaches are just known to be found in unclean areas with loose food. These bad boys came in a nice 1.5 inch length and we're quick. I've attached photos for viewing pleasure. We loved that the dead roach got cleaned by the maid but the thick splatter marks were left untouched.

All in all, if you are looking for a laid back, we'll kept, enjoyable, clean, and relaxing place to take a vacation... go to a high end resort St. Thomas or Puerto Rico. I also ended up catching the Chikungunya virus from a mosquito at the resort as well (there is a very small "pond" at the resort that is perfect for them).. it's a nasty itchy rash and achy joints filled week or so for me!
