We asked for a tour guide and Boneto Vegas was fabulous giving background and historical significance of this fort. Fort is nicely preserved. Enjoy seeing dungeon and cell that imprisoned Alexander Hamilton's mother. View at top spectacular!

This fort, which guarded the Christiansted harbour when St Croix was a Danish sugar colony, is well preserved, and the architecture is beautiful. Its only $3 per person entrance fee and kids enter for free. There’s a great view of Christiansted harbour from the Water Battery (upper deck where the six 18-pounder cannons are located). Some of the historical signs are faded and in need of replacement but the Park Service has a nice exhibit on the history of the Virgin Islands just off to the right before you enter the main courtyard. For fans of the Broadway musical Hamilton, you can see the cell where Alexander Hamilton’s mother Rachel languished after being accused by her estranged husband Peter Lavien of adultery. There’s a nice exhibit on Hamilton’s boyhood in St Croix too. The dungeon is accessible (if you duck) and our 4-year-old loved exploring it. Its also humbling to look around and realize the sheer misery that black slaves were subjected to in the dungeon. All in all, a very nice historical site to visit!

You would be surprised to find this place open there has been a serious amount of damage from the recent storms but a good part of the for is open. There are some lovely displays in place including an art show and the views from the roof and gunnery sites. It was well worth the small fee of 5 US dollars per adult although maybe they should also have a donation box to help restore the Fort after the storm; but I guess there are too many requests for donations across the area. There is enough to see to amuse all ages and the cost is minimal an hour would be plenty of time at the moment.

This was a nice self guided tour that gives you a step back in time. The signage was a bit faded/damaged and difficult to read, but we were able to read most of the history.

Took my 12 year old granddaughter to visit the Fort. I had been several times just to wander through but it was great to see it from a teens view. She loved the history and marveled at how old it was. She was "grossed out" by the latrine and "freaked out" by the jail cells, especially the dungeon. After some coaxing it also turned into a great photo shoot. The trip to the Fort with teens is really what you make it, short enough for them not to get bored but interesting enough to fit some history in to your vacation or cruise ship stop Day.
