Nothing like farm fresh organic salad and fixings along with a host of other delicious seasonal finds! Very talented artist to boot!
ARTfarm is a treasure on St. Croix and everything they grow is organic and really delicious! We rented a house and prepared most of our meals at home, so finding things like heirloom tomatoes, organic basil, and beautiful lettuces made it feel like we were right back in the middle of summer. Oh, and by the way, the people there at the farm are warm and friendly and very accommodating!!!
I am on island 3x a year and go to get Lucca's produce the twice a week they are open-- wonderful lettuces, tomatoes, papaya, honey, wonderful everything! He even took some scissors and picked his last remaining mint leaves for my husband's mojitos when he heard how desperate he was for one and the "island" was out of mint. Ha! Outstanding produce-- delightful staff--wish they were in my home town in VA.
Every time we visit STX I have to stop by on Wednesday to get my homegrown tomatoes! Spectacular. They are only open on Wednesdays from 3-6 but you better come early because they sell out of most produce by 4:30. Great stuff!!
Overall best greens and tomatoes in the Virgin Islands. Josephine's in St. John just as fabulous though. I will wait in line for the greens at the art farm but sadly It brings out a feeding frenzy American behavior ...people in line commented this morning "gentlemen start your engines" as the gate opened. I wish the art farm was more like Josephine who opens her doors and has a steady stream of people arriving. I'll still go... love it ...but the culture could be a little more laid back (and encourage this) with a few minor changes in distribution practices of the business.
There are no bargains to be had at this "farmers' market." The produce is nice, but no better than we've found at the larger supermarkets (the Pueblo at Sunny Isle has great produce!). The drive to the ARTfarm is pleasant, especially if you are heading for Point Udall or the casino drive.
