I went in May 2011 for my 30th birthday with some friends and had a blast. (The date selector here wouldn't go back that far.) So much so that we never left the resort except for excursions that picked us up at the docks.

~ Do yourself a favor and get the all-inclusive option. You won't regret it. Best resort food and drinks I've ever had.
~ Location: Although we didn't leave the resort, it was quite a ride in the shuttle to and from the airport. Lots of photo ops on the way, but it's not walking distance to anything. The roads are very narrow, curvy, steep, and not safe to walk along.
~ Staff was very friendly.
~ We went in the off-season so there was no wait on anything. There were other people there, but not many. We received instant, quality service.
~ The food. Gosh. DEELICIOUS! I think my friends cleaned them out of their crab leg supply. Iggy's kept us full and buzzed. And Lobster Grille was to die for. Yumtastic.
~ The drinks. I was buzzed the entire trip. Loads of cocktails to choose from.
~ The resort itself were NOT luxury accomodations. Get that out of your system if that's what you're looking for. The room met our needs, but was not luxurious by any means. We didn't care because we don't go on vacations to stay in the room anyway.
~ The beach was small, but private. Only Bolongo Bayers were there. I'm not really a beach person, so I can't compare it to others, but I enjoyed it. There was plenty of room to swim. We saw plenty of turtles and stingray or two.
~ Excursions were available for pickup right on the dock. No taxicab rides needed! Super convenient.
~ Taxi rides were expensive which is one of the reasons we decided not to venture into St. Thomas. Once we were on day 2, we didn't want to anyway.

The group of us that went have been on several vacations since then (over a year ago) and we STILL cannot compare to the relaxing time we had at Bolongo Bay. Even a couple who went on their honeymoon elsewhere still said they had a better time at Bolongo Bay. As long as you don't go with any expectations of luxury accomodations in the rooms, you'll have a blast.

And bring mosquito spray!!

Room Tip: Bring bug spray or purchase some when you get there. Crazy mosquitos.

The staff at the bay were ALL excellent!! Very accommodating, quick, and personable.

The Beach was clean and absolutely beautiful!! The water is that wonderful aqua blue. There are turtles, barracuda, rays, and schools of all kinds of fish to be found in the bay. There are tons of easily accessible beach equipment, say kayaks, snorkel gear, sailboat, boards, etc. right there on the resort. My husband and I loved visiting the sea turtles and the bay was superb for snorkeling!

The ocean front rooms have excellent views. Unfortunately, the rooms were dirty with spackle on the bathroom walls, and the design and furniture was pretty outdated. There is no wi-fi in the rooms (only by the pool).

The food and beverages were fantastic at both the "nice" restaurant and the Iggy's Bar, I mean some of the best we have had!!

The resort is not the closest to the airport and it is not the closest to the Ferry to St. Johns, so both trips take a while, especially since everyone else seems to get dropped off first, and the cab fares can get pricey. I don't get motion sickness, but even I was feeling woosey after the many hairpin turns, up and down the steep hills.

The resort is smaller, so it is more intimate, which has its obvious advantages.

Not for sure if we would go back..

Room Tip: 114 is the best beachfront

It was a 5day 4night stay at Bolongo bay. It started out a little shabby, when we entered our 2 br condo. It was advertised as a beachfront condo and pictures gave the impresion it was well maintained. First of all it was on the 4th floor of a rocky coastline. 2nd- It looks like who ever owned this condo ,never put a dime into it. It was really beatup! also it was at the very end of the resort. A couple foot ball feilds of walking. My wife reacted and talked to the front desk to see what the regular resort rooms looked like. She was shown two rooms close to the office on the third floor. These rooms were alot nicer and cheaper. They were a little dated but clean and well maintained. they were 3 floors up, but over top the beach. Now we are in business. The rest of the vacation was spent at the pool, beach, ocean, snorkeling, eating and drinking. There was live music, great food and great service. Everybody was nice! The only advice i would give you is to get updated pictures of the condos if you choose to stay there. And also ask where they are located in respect to the pool ,beach and restaurants. Other than the condo mistake, every thing was great!

Room Tip: Get updated pics ofthe room and ask where it is in relation to all the activities.

After a crazy half hour taxi ride from the airport - seriously, it felt like our taxi was in a high-speed chase running from the police - you're greeted with a refreshing yummy rum punch at check-in... a delicious way to start a vacation! Bolongo is set on a beautiful bay (very intimate location, no other resorts share the beach) with fantastic marine life and coral to explore literally steps from the shoreline. We saw sea turtles, little sharks, tons of fish and lots of other marine life in our stay at the resort. A sunset cruise along the St. Thomas coastline and a half-day snorkeling trip to turtle bay (Buck Island) were included in our all-inclusive package. I'd totally recommend the turtle bay day trip, but I wasn't too fond of the sunset cruise. As for the all-inclusive package... if you're a lush, you'll definitely want everything included - with the exception of top-shelf liquor. If you want steak and lobster every single night with a tasty glass of wine or a bucket of booze-ridden punch, your wish is their command. Service was fantastic at both in-house restaurant/bars which will make you feel like Bolongo is your "home away from home". Food at the Lobster Grille is top-notch, but beware of the nasty mosquitoes. They linger from dawn 'til dusk, so be prepared for a "bug spray" greeting by the hostess. Iggies has great food and amazing bartenders who will make you want to keep coming back for more! Overall, you will not be disappointed!

Spent a night, enjoyed the Wednesday night entertainment at Iggy's. Lots of fun, happy hour was great, and food was reasonably priced. The lobster grill for breakfast was not so pleasant, waitresses were a bit rude and I could overhear them talking badly about their paying customers. Definitely visit once during your stay in St. Thomas!!!
