I don't agree with another reviewer saying it's a roach motel, sure it's not the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, it's a simple hotel. I know what a roach motel is believe me I checked into one in Vallejo, California and checked out 5 minutes later. The staff are really friendly, Stacy, Nettie made us feel at home. Had some problems with the A/C but it was fixed quickly, the extra charge for electricity was $25 but reduce to $20 due to initial problem. I thought there was no wi-fi since I did not see anywhere this mentioned but there is and I clocked it to 10 Mbps download, 0.60 Mbps upload. As others mentioned there is nothing in walking distance, your better off renting a car (used my gps). Be sure to have them contact you with the tour agent Michael, he really is an all around great guy. Friendly, always concerned that you get the best experience out of your stay in the Bahamas.

It is a small resort and yes the golf club is no longer there due to hurricane. No it is nota 5 star resort, but the staff and the people make up for the rest. The first day in people made us feel at home. Michael is awesome and Stacy will do whatever she can to help make your stay comfortable. We had a blast there and you don't have to go far to do anything you want. We would stay there again, because the people are so friendly. The rooms are spacious 2 bedrooms with a full bath in both bedrooms. Kitchen is good size and the dining area and living room area. It is the only heated pool on the island. Very quiet and relaxing at the resort.

Island Resort and Golf Club is a very small "resort" in Freeport. There is no longer a golf club since it was destroyed by the hurricanes in 2004. The area around the hotel is very isolated and run down due to the hurricanes and they have never built it back up again. The resort touts they are within walking distance of the International Bazaar; however, there is virtually nothing left there other than one restaurant, a liquor store and the perfume factory. The rest of the buildings are boarded up and have never been touched since 2004.

Island Resort itself is comfortable but the furnishing need some updating and the units are in desperate need of maintenance and some hard core cleaning. The high lime content of the water has corroded the sinks and faucets leaving ugly stains. They have updated many of the small appliances in the rooms and all the towels are new and very clean.

The staff at this resort make up for the quality of the rooms. Stacy, Nettie and Michael go out of their way to make sure you are well taken care of and responded to all our needs when asked.

The pool area is small but it is well maintained and warm. The bar area could use a little work but Michael makes up for it with his great Bahama Mamas! At the time we were there the bar wasn't staffed except for a few hours most evenings.

You will have to pay extra for power if you exceed a certain amount of kilowatt hours so make sure you check in with the front desk periodically. It can get expensive!

Room tip: Third floor facing away from the sun in the morning. Room gets very hot and air conditioner doesn't work that well.
