We stayed here Memorial Day week and had the place to ourselves. A 50-unit resort and we were the ONLY guests for the entire week. We are not terribly social people, so didn't really have a problem with it. In fact, it added to our enjoyment because we had our pick of the pool chairs and management was very flexible as far as arranging transportation. Most of what I have read in the reviews is true. Whether it's good or bad depends upon your perspective. No, I would not hire Rochelle as a guest relations manager, but as a property manager she does a great job of keeping the place in good condition. Management must share this opinion because she has been there over 20 years. We also foujnd it is possible for her to be friendly once you get to know her and make the effort. Other staff members were friendly. There is security at night, but it is so low key you might not even see the guy making his rounds. The resort is out of the way, next to a residential neighborhood and a closed golf course. Very quiet with minimal traffic. There are 2 restaurants about a 1/4 mile away. Ruby Swiss is good for lunch and dinner with very reasonable prices. Silk Cafe is open for breakfast and lunch, but we didn't eat there. The Intenational Bazarr is about 3/4 mile away and not really worth the walk. We had dinner at the Flamingo Restaurant in the Castaways resort and found the selection sparser, the service slower and the prices higher than at Ruby Swiss. Rochelle will give you a lift to a large grocery in downtown that has everything you need, including alcohol. She'll also give you a ride to Taino Beach and back. We found the beach to be almost as deserted as the resort. Besides the beach, there is not much else to do. That was fine with us because we were after rest and relaxation. If you want a lot to do, then you need to go to a different island. All in all, it wasn't our favorite vacation spot, but it would be hard to find a place more quiet and peaceful.

This resort is out of the way and a car or taxi is needed to get to any sites. The resort is dated and there hasn't been any upgrades, but we were impressed with how large the units were and how clean they were. The staff was not very friendly unless it was to owners, and since we exchanged to get here, we didn't feel very welcomed. Upon arrival it was hot and humid, our unit wasn't ready yet, and though their activity sheet said to enjoy drinks while you wait, they didn't even have water to offer, and didn't seem to care. We decided to enjoy our trip despite the unfriendly staff. If we ever return to Freeport, we will select another location and it is mainly because of the unfriendly staff.

Room tip: The ground floor units did not have an outside balcony. The upper levels did and that would have been nicer.

First of all they only want cash. They had a credit card machine but it is always broken. They have their hand out for cash every time you want something( even a beach towel). No ATM available. The shuttle is not free. They take you places but refuse to pick you up. They refer you to the local buses which stop running at 7 pm. The shuttle runs when they get around to it not on the posted schedule. So you are forced to take a taxi everywhere. The International Bazaar was destroyed 10 years ago and is is ruins to this day. There is nothing to do at this resort. No activities, no restaurant, no phones in the rooms ( the only phone in the office is monitored by the staff if it is working on any particular day). You are stranded at this resort. The resort has been seriously neglected. Everything in the units is broken and outdated but it is clean. Thank God.They have 50 condos and only 8 where occupied. No people to socialize with. Not a fun place to spend a vacation. The manager has the personality that is akin to that of a funeral director. No life to her. She lives on the premises with her five kids. She was unable to make any suggestions or recommendations of things to do. We had an early flight and the taxi did not show. There was no one to help us. The office was locked and deserted. We knocked on condo doors looking for the manager. No luck. Another guest ( who we did not know) drove us to the airport or we would have missed our flight.

Before my arrival to Freeport I read all the reviews and was a tad bit skeptical on it. But to my surprise it has been by far the most at home feel you can find anywhere. Yes the units are in need of updating but it had everything you needed and we had the best time of our lives there. It was quiet, secluded, and best of all that homey feel. Rochelle made sure that we were enjoying every minute of everyday while we were there. The resort takes you to the supermarket 3 times a week and to the beach once a day. If you like to explore I definitely suggest taking a walk around. A lot of things are in walking distance. Butlers food world and circle mall is about 20 minute walk and in the opposite direction you'll get to Sire's (great cracked conch) in about the same amount of time. We walked to the downtown area as part of our local exploration. They have public buses that can take you to port lucaya for $1.25 each person from any bus stop. Freeport Resort & Club is the pink pearl (can be found in a conch shell if you're lucky) of Freeport. We will definitely be back next year.

We stayed there for our second week and loved it. Staff were great, friendly and willing to talk. Only 6 people at the resort so it was blissfully quiet. They left us alone. The kitchen utensils were fantastic, everything I needed, good quality pots and pans, appliances, dishes. The furniture was what one would expect in a perfect warm climate. Wicker and comfy cushions. Loved the bathroom and tub, bed, actually everything. No dishwasher was not a big deal.
Gardens lovingly taken care of. Hot tub and pool clean and working.
If you go make sure you bring peanuts for the old parrot Paco. He is lonely and loves to be sung to. Bring him a tennis ball and grab a branch that he can peel the bark off and he will be so excited to see you and talk to you.
Close to bus, good restaurants, fresh fish from the trucks. Shop at Sawyers for best prices, walk to town and Xanadu beach (wonderfully vacant). Would certainly go there again and again.
