“Not as Idyllic as it Appears”

We booked a little over two weeks at Sea Garden and found it to have both positive and negative aspects. We enjoyed the wrap-around porch and beautiful view of the ocean. It was also nice that each bedroom had its own bathroom. The neighbours were close in proximity but pleasant. The house is located approximately 30 paces from the Queen’s Highway between Georgetown and the airport. While this is a convenient location, this section of the highway is very busy and noisy from vehicular traffic. Be prepared to listen to the vehicles speed by as you try to enjoy dinner on the porch. As well, this amount of traffic creates an added hazard for young children. The sub-standard aspects of the home included a complete lack of screens on the windows and poorly hung screen doors which allowed many flies to enter. Whenever we cooked, the kitchen filled with flies and hundreds were stuck to the three screen doors that surrounded the kitchen. Eventually, in order to prepare dinner fly-free, we closed all windows and doors which meant the kitchen got very hot (not worth turning on AC for one hour of meal prep). In the bedrooms, there was very limited closet space except for a small wicker armoire in each bedroom, which did not close when clothes were hung in it. According to the owners the mattresses were “new”; however, we found ourselves sinking in the middle. The bed in the master squeaked whenever one of us moved which meant that my husband and I kept each other awake through the night. I eventually moved out of the bed and slept on pillows on the floor. Finally, there was a lack of sufficient essential supplies such as toilet paper, dish washing soap and paper towels (for a 2-week stay we were given one paper towel roll and 3 rolls of toilet paper per bathroom). For the daily price of Sea Garden, the lack of screens, squeaky master bed and lack of basic provisions was unacceptable. The web site advertised a sound system, but there was none. Overall, we were disappointed with the rental. As a result, we departed Sea Garden approximately half way through our 2-week rental, something we have never done before in our 15 years of renting throughout the Bahamas. We asked Olena and Allen for a refund for the second week but received no response. We are seasoned travelers and have never considered abandoning a rental property until Sea Garden.

Management Response

I would like to start with, that any expensive and 5 star houses located on the main road of the island, Queen's Hwy, since it's the only paved road that goes along the beach and has the most popular rentals. If you rent your house on the other side of the island, you will end up driving there through terrible unpaved road and away from the beaches. In reality all you hear on the porch of the house is the ocean. Ocean is consistently loud, and the only noise near you.
We do have all screens for the windows, it's just the guests never asked for them. We keep them in the garage, since all the guests either use air-conditioner, or open all 7 doors ( which have screens) for the breeze. We took the screens down on the windows on purpose, not to obscure the view of the ocean.
Every room has closets and enough space for your clothing to hang. Never had any complains before about closet space.
The bed in the Master Bedroom is fixed. No squeaking any more. Again, we are living on the island and provide customer service 24/7, we are just a call away to fix anything in the house. Things go bad and it's normal at anybody's house. All we ask is communication with us, please.
We do provide all the toiletries just to start with, and it's atated on the website. 4 rolls of toilet paper per bathroom, 1 roll paper towels in the kitchen, laundry detergent, dish soap, dish sponge. And the guests have to supply themselves with the rest as they run out of things. Every vacation rental does the same things.
I have to bring the untruthful information about the guest's statement. They stayed through the whole vacation, and had to leave couple days earlier because of the emergency at home. But they wanted their money back and complained to the website lying about the negative things of the house. The case # 15242541 was created with Homeaway website, and was resolved in our favor. The management of the website decided that the guest didn't have enough reasons to get their money back.
I will be not surprised if Thomas Wenske is doing this with every house he rents for the last 15 years and trying to stay for free.

“Can you say relaxing!”
Reviewed 5 September 2017 for a stay in August 2017

Wonderful beachfront cottage. Showing a little age but has everything you need. Air conditioning worked great and the cottage was very clean. Loved sitting on the porch watching the beautiful azure waters. Kayaks, rafts, beach chairs, hammock, some snorkel gear, towels, games, books and ice waiting in the freezer! Great location, minutes from airport & Georgetown. Owners very responsive & helpful with local information. Hope we'll be able to stay again.

We stayed at sea garden the first week in June and loved it. The views from the house are gorgeous and you basically have the beach to yourself. House is about a 5 minute drive from the airport so super convenient. It's located in the middle of everything so it's not too far to drive anywhere on the island.

“We Loved Sea Garden”

We enjoyed a great 10 day vacation at Sea Garden earlier this month. The house was just a presented on VRBO, it was very clean and well stocked. Olena was super nice and easy to work with, helping with groceries, rental car agencies, as well as placed to eat and things to see and do.

Exuma is gorgeous and the view from the porch is almost 180 degrees allowing you to enjoy the beauty of the water from the cool shady porch. From mid day until late afternoon the color of the water is incredible.

One word of advice; park close to the road as the coconuts on the palm trees do fall and can damage your car. We found out the hard way with a shattered windshield that the rental insurance did not cover.

If we were to return to Exuma we would stay at Sea Garden again.

“Memorable and Enjoyable”

We loved staying at Sea Garden! From the moment we got there to when we left we could not have asked for anything more. The property is perfectly situated only minutes away from the airport. The accommodations were comfortable for everyone in our group. I traveled with my wife and 7 month old son, my parents and my wife's father. Our hosts could not have been more accommodating. They were there to greet us and had the house ready and clean with some basic essentials to make our stay perfect. The wrap-around porch was very enjoyable as we got to lookout to the most beautiful ocean waters you can imagine. With direct access to the beach and hardly anyone else around it felt like we had the beach all to ourselves. We will always remember this vacation and the wonderful time we had staying at Sea Garden!
