We decided to stay in Ao Nang on our way to Koh Lanta and stayed here based on its rating here. We're so glad we did! We had no idea how to get there so we phoned the resort from a store on the main strip and someone came to pick us up. On the ride there we realized we were pretty far from the action and got a little nervous. Upon arrival though, all our doubts were set aside. My first thought was "We found paradise."

There weren't very many people there and it felt like we had the place to ourselves. The rooms were basic with a bedroom and separate bathroom. It was clean and outside each place is a hammock. Our bungalow was also just steps from the beach, a beach all to ourselves! No one else was swimming in it because we were so far away from the main strip. It was amazing!

The staff were also extremely friendly and we really enjoyed the food. It felt like it was made from love. Definitely try out their soups! There are also a few dogs and cats roaming around that are super friendly and fun. There was a golden retriever puppy there but he was shy. Oh and there was free wi-fi in the restaurant! We learned later on in our trips to different islands in Thailand that this was a luxury.

The only problem with this place is how far it is from the main town. A staff member dropped us off into town one night and left us with a map to give a tuk tuk driver to get us back. This proved to be a lot more difficult. We got lost for about a half an hour in complete darkness in the middle of nowhere. Thankfully after a lot of searching our tuk tuk driver found the place! To be honest, there's not much happening in the main town so if you're just looking for a place to relax, this is perfect.

I am amazed that there are so few reviews of this place! I have only good things to say about Pine Bungalow. It's off the beaten track, right on a beautiful beach with great views!
You couldn't wish for nicer staff! They are so friendly and accommodating!
I the rooms are just lovely and clean and they have options to suit everyone.
The restaurant is great, very reasonable and good food. They also have free wifi in the restaurant which is really good - best connection I have had in Thailand so far!
It's not a party destination as there is not much nearby. It's a great spot for a group, a family or a couple. I was solo and it was so nice to have a break from the party spots!

Room Tip: The rooms right on the beach are great value!

We are a family of 4 and we stayed in Pine Bungalow during 7 days in July 2012.
We had our own car and this detail is important, as Pine Bungalow is 15 minutes away from Nopparathara Beach & Ao Nang Beach. Around Pine Bungalow, there is.... nothing.
For some, it might be a problem, but for us, it was just perfect :-).
+++
- Very friendly staff. Always available to help us organize our visits.
- Excellent food. We asked for things that were not on the menu, and they made them for us.
- Nice beach and beautiful view on the sea
- hammocks everywhere on the beach
- Silence at night. Very important for us...
---
- please... change the mattresses....

I saw a similar comment concerning mattresses so I think it may concern all rooms.
Except this, I definitely recommend Pine bungalow : stressless, quiet, nice nice nice staff, very good thai food.

My husband and I ventured here on recommendation of a fellow traveler in Malaysia in spring of 2008. We thought we would just stay a couple of nights but ended our 6 month vacation by spending 26 days here before heading back to Canada. WE LOVE THE PINE BUNGALOWS. The main reason we stayed so long was the great open air restaurant with delicious and affordable food. cheap beer, western and thai food, and we could run a tab for the whole time. We had a cute bungalow just steps to the private beach with a hammock and chairs on our "patio" that was about $12 per night. The staff are fantastic and laid back, and funny. We were very sorry to hear of SongPong's death (snake bite) last year (2011?). There were lots of fun canadians, finnish, danish, etc. travelers staying long term while we were there too who we still talk with! Hours of backgammon, skinny dipping at 2am, beach parties, renting scooters, boat trips, and thai chicken curries are my favorite memories. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!

We stayed here in 1992 and then came back with our three kids in December 2011. It still has the friendly relaxed atmosphere it had 19 years ago. Our rooms were 500B for an older but decent double bed room and 600B for a newer larger one with twin beds. We also had on other matress put on the floor or our youngest (aged 10). The rooms were classic wonky concrete bungalows with mosquito netting on windows, pedestal fans, bathrooms with western toilets and cold showers. I have to say that traveling at this time of year without air con is fine and the lack of tv is refreshing. The beach is rocky and silty, but perfectly good for a swim at high tide. This was fine for us since, like most people, we only take a dip just for cooling off.

The beds are hard, as Thais like them. The food is good, especially the local seafood. Overall we are spending 1/4 of the money we were spending on Ko Lanta (although admittedly we had AC and TV and fridge etc) but having a more relaxing and memorable Thai experience.

They run island trips from the beach with their own longtail and can organise other activities. The kids went nuts on the table tennis.

I was not sure how to score the location since for some it will be perfect but for others not social enough or too rocky. For me it is perfect so I will rate it according to my taste. The bungalows are all in a great jungle sort of garden.

Popular with German and French speakers.

We have travelled to Thailand 8 times, 5 times with kids, and would recommend this place for a low key, safe, thai bungalow experience. I would come back.
