I would recommend a visit to Mariscos los Laureles to anyone, including non-Spanish speakers, who is not afraid to try seafood, including in its raw form, in Mexico.

The ambience is relaxed and quaint, while the bilingual menu takes a lot of the stress out of understanding what's on offer. All portions are generous, including the starters, and very democratically priced.

Expect to spend about 300 pesos each for a very filling meal including a full-blown main course, a large shared plate to start with, beer and tip.

I concur with the waiter's recommendation of octopus al ajillo, it was a masterpiece of seafood cooking. If more than one person is at the table, consider starting with a whole order of delicious ceviche. Skip the popsicles on offer; if you fancy dessert, walk down on the Malecon and you will find plenty of places with better goods.

A favourite spot during my visits to La Paz. Recently I had the fish and then another time the shrimp in the garlic sauce - so delicious! Friendly staff, clean bathroom and great food and portions. A must visit!

Great deal on seafood. Four of us had whole huachinango (local red snapper). Three of us chose Veracruz style and one chose garlic sauce. Each was served with a small green salad on the side. Last member of our party had pulpo (octopus) in garlic sauce, which came with sides of veggies, rice, and potato salad. All was very fresh and absolutely delicious. I was a particular fan of the Veracruz sauce. Service was friendly and attentive. Casual ambience and thoroughly enjoyable. Next time, I would like to sit outside to look at the water. The party next to us had eaten there the day before and was planning to come back the next day. They seemed happy with everything they had gotten both days and were planning what to eat the next evening. Our whole bill - including 2 beers, 3 limonadas, and tip - was about 1400 pesos.
