We just returned from 6 extremely romantic nights at Las Brisas. It was one of the most beautiful and certainly the most romantic place we have ever been, but some problems: I booked via the Las Brisas web site and when we arrived, they had 100% occupancy and no record of our reservation. Fortunately, we took a copy of the confirmation and after a bit of a wait and a bit of a hassel, they gave us a room, but not before they made us feel like it was our fault! I had also emailed Las Brisas with a question via the web site and they never got back to us.
I loved the fact that it seemed like it was mostly well-to-do Mexicans from Mexico City staying at the resort (it was their 'Presidents Day weekend', so to speak). I felt like I was 'in the know'...like when you go to a Chinese restaurant and there are mostly Chinese people eating their...you know you made a good selection, plus, I don't go on vacation to another country to see other Americans or Canadians. Anyway, we were finally given room 252, which had the absolute best view and best patio area...but smnall problem, there is a VERY LOUD nightclub directly below that blares their music all night and into the wee hours. It was horrendous (my husband and I used to be DJs so it's not that we are intolerant of loud music, it was just REALLY LOUD! The club must be outdoors.). I didn't sleep. We asked to be moved and after 'yes, no problem, we will call you' over and over and many visits and calls to the front desks over two days, they finally showed us a few other rooms (took us another sleepless night and two days to get that far).
The maid service was inconsistant (they kept forgetting the flowers) and the refridgerator area smelled terrible...and my final complaint is that when we checked out, I called to ask for a car and for someone to help us with our bags, and although they were so insistant on helping us down the long flight of stairs with our heavy bags while checking in, no one wanted to help us up with them checking out/up the stairs...the bell boy was very angry that we expected him to help.
I thought the room and the view and the whole set up was extraordinary...I thought the service could be much better. Perhaps telling you yes and then ignoring your request is the Mexican way...I don't know, I haven't spent enough time there...but I was not impressed with the customer service. They were nice enough, just nothing got done.
Oh, and one more thing. We ordered piaya and salad (big mistake, I read not to eat lettuce AFTER!) from room service, and had to pay the hotel Dr. $200 US as we were so sick after. I think it must have been the salad. I told the hotel staff the food made us sick and they seemed totally unconcerned. No doubt this happens to alot of Americans everywhere in Mexico, but still, a "So sorry to hear..." would have been nice... I never expected to get sick from room service at a 4 star hotel.
Overall...It was amazing, and I wish my husband hadn't wanted to see all of Acapulco (which is normally what I want to do when travelling) as I would have been very satisfied not moving from my hotel room/patio. The beach club was impressive, but having a patio and your own pool...can't be beat! Go down to Walmart and for less than $3 US get yourself a plastic floatie or raft for your private pool...skinny dipping with a tequila and OJ and floating on that raft with that view...it was truly paradise!!!
