We have just returned from one week at Las Brisas and I have been writing this review in my head for days now. I cannot say enough nice things about this hotel and its warm, friendly and resourceful staff, it's stunning views and its comfortable rooms and grounds. And, I also need to state that we did not feel unsafe at any time we were there, despite the recent news accounts coming out of that area.
First, the room: high thread count, private pool, breakfast delivered each morning - what more needs to be said? The view of the City from our room (443) was amazing and breathtaking.
Next, the service. For a hotel that caters to a more affluent, and thus typically demanding crowd, we experienced not one drop of "attitude" from its staff. Osiris, the Chief Concierge is so lovely and over-the-top helpful. While she is juggling thirty different tasks and dozens of phone calls, she takes time out to chat and make you feel like you are visiting with an old friend and are the most important person there. And, let's not forget some of the other stellar staff that made our visit so memorable: Eduardo (at the Concierge desk), Victor (at La Concha Beach Club) and Leonardo (at the Sunset Bar), Everyone there - from the front-desk staff to housekeeping to the jeep drivers - are exceptional.
La Concha Beach Club is a must-do. Plan to spend at least one day lounging by the freshwater lagoon pool or jumping in the regular swimming pool overlooking Santa Lucia Bay and the City. We recommend asking for Table 11 - if you prefer sit-down service at the Club's restaurant.
While we were there, we had the pleasure of having Angel Flores as our driver. He is a consummate professional, very kind and helpful and a very safe and good driver. He toured us around the City to the more popular landmarks one day, and then we asked to see some of the more local spots another day, including the Central Market, which was huge and fascinating, but is not for the thin skinned, as it could be an assault on the senses. But, he will take you anywhere you want to go, including Taxco, the silver mining town which is about 3 hours away. Angel can be reached through the hotel's Concierge desk or at angelinacapulco@gmail.com, and we highly recommend him. For smaller, local stops, taxis are always convenient and available near the hotel lobby.
The food: in a word: Yum. Here is a list of restaurants that we recommend (and we are picky):
- Su Casa - a must-do
- Zibu - Mexican Thai food, unique setting
- Becco al Mare - amazing views, decent food
- Hotel Encanto - good for Sunset, cocktails or dinner in a unique architectural setting
- Banyan Tree - good for Sunset and Spa Treatments -restaurant's food is quite good
- Esmirna del Mar in Barra Vieja - great grilled seafood on the sand
Note: Go see the cliff divers, but do not eat at La Perla - just go for cocktails.
Ahhhhhh. Writing this review makes me want to return to Acapulco...Somehow, I am sure we will.
