Had mixed experience here. First room was two single beds, not requested double. Stayed in room one night. The standard rooms are similar to hostels I've stayed in. Very basic. Hotel staff upgraded us to a room on the side of the building with an ocean view for no extra charge. It was a much nicer room but the AC did not work.

We had friends in an ocean view room facing the beach. Their room was great. I highly recommend going with that room if you stay here.

The access to the beach is good and the restaurant under the hotel is ver good. The hotel staff are also very friendly. They helped with getting around. The hotel also had safety deposit boxes and computers for checking email, looking for tours etc., as well as free wi-fi in the lobby.

This hotel is supposed to be only a 2 stars hotel....
But it’s much more than that
A perfect location, on the beach
In the middle of everything
A walking distance to so many good restaurants.
There’s no restaurant in that hotel,
But in 2 minutes walking the morning you reach in all directions many good ones.
Simple rooms, but always clean.
Very discreet entrance, in case you arrive too drunk or want to keep your “privacy “
Very friendly and discreet receptionist,Ernesto, gracias
I would be back for sure

The location, staff and proximity to the beach was unbeatable. The hotel is a bit older, but with that, comes character. Very clean and all the staff were amazing. We will definitely stay here when we return.

I picked this hotel based on the location and I’m so glad that we did.
Our first room was on the main floor which was great because of how quick it was to run back to (don’t let the gate scare you) but there was several pipes dripping from above so it was like it was raining on the patio so we asked to change rooms. They were as accommodating as they could be and we were able to switch after 3 nights. The next room was perfect. We like to sit out on the balcony in the evenings so this was great for us.
It was cleaned well every day. Yes, there could be some upgrades as the age is showing but it’s Mexico, if the bed is clean and comfy, you’re good to go! We also had lots of hot water (shower only) and the bathrooms are small but they are all you need.
I would totally stay here again. Thanks for a great week Hotel Emperador!

We have enjoyed many stays at this hotel. We are remembered and treated like family....hugs all around. Its a basic hotel, but scrupulously clean and enjoys one of the best on-the-beach locations in town; right near the pier. Steps from many great restaurants & bars and the ocean front suites offer million dollar views at pauper prices. Regular rooms are very basic with street views, window AC units...some have bed configurations you may not like. Suites (all kings)are well worth the upgrade for views, kitchens, size and split unit AC. Flat screen TV's have a half dozen English language stations....many MX stations frequently have subtitled English programs as well.
Best deals seem to be via third party sites, although their monthy rate is pretty good too.
No pool, a deal breaker for many, means generally no kids. Dogs are allowed so if an occassional bark bothers you, bring ear plugs (sometimes there are late nite parties on the beach below too). Balcony kitchens come with basic pots, pans, tableware & coffee maker. Our sweet maid brought us extras by request...additional pitchers, blanket, etc, as well as daily towel sculptues and fresh flowers. Rooftop garden sun deck has loungers and is rarely used....relax in private with no vendors. View is great from up there. Wifi worked great for us this trip, but some reported otherwise. You may want to ask for a room with better signal if thats important to you.
Wifi signal can also be borrowed on your balcony from the downstairs restaurant.
We noticed a couple rooms getting remodeled bathrooms...not sure if eventually all units are scheduled, but they looked sharp...attractive jazzy new tile, raised bowl sinks, rainfall showers....nice.
As always front desk staff on all shifts are personable and do whatever they can to make your stay enjoyable. Aging elevator was only out briefly twice (that we know of). Safe deposit boxes are free off the lobby and available 24/7.
Some guests complain that they have to purchase food/drink from the leased restaurant to use beach loungers; we don't begrudge them making a couple of dollars (they offer hotel guests a discount). Restauant supposedly offers room service, but i've never seen anyone use it. OXXO convenience store is steps from the entrance.
Basic property, but fits our style. Tough to beat enjoying coffee while watching the beach come alive in the morning, or sipping a drink watching one of PV's amazing sunsets.

Room Tip: Regular rooms are pretty basic, suites well worth the modest upgrade
