We are repeat visitors and have tried several other Puerto Vallarta hotels -tough to beat the Sheraton . Staff, location, facility are what brings us back.First the staff-- Andres Salazar looks after us for bookings, room selection ect -Andres provides outstanding service and takes a genuine interest in looking after us . The club lounge guys -Arnufo,Efrin,Juan,Ernesto go out of there way to make us feel at home . The lady (sorry I forgot your name ) cleaning 2307 Jan 26-Feb 19 looked after us well. The above mentioned staff+ Hector (on the front ) Carlos (pool waiter Captain ) are major reasons why we have become regulars .

Location -- close to downtown (but not to close ),with in easy walking distantance of a broad range of resturants and the malecon

Facility -- older but well kept --has an ambiance/sence of style that puts it apart from the many .hotel area /downtown hotels .

Food is OK but not great --take advantage off the many fine resturants in Puerto vallarta.

Time share sellers in lobby can be anoying ,and you need to be firm in telling them you have no interest .

The staff was very helpful and friendly. The beach in front of the hotel was nice and sandy. The beach in front of the time share was rocky. The street in front of the hotel was closed on Sunday morning for running and biking. We loved being able to run on the street. We walked into the boardwalk almost everyday it is about 3/4 mile from the hotel. Very nice location. We booked at an all inclusive and the food was great and we could order from the menu in the buffet if we wanted and we did on several occasions. Loved the vacation.

Room tip: We had a garden facing room with a balcony it was very nice.

Stayed at this hotel for one week. In summary, if you book this resort as a "All Inclusive" package, you will be treated like a second class citizen. European Plan customers and Time Share owners receive much better treatment because they are paying for what they order. This treatment dominated the week and I feel that this hotel gives "Sheraton" a bad name.

Be aware that if you arrive here on a red-eye flight with Air Transat, that you will not get a hotel room until 3 or 4 in the afternoon that day. We knew this going into it and, luckily, our flight had been delayed which resulted in our arrival in the early afternoon instead of 0500 hrs. Upon arrival and check in, we wondered down to the poolside bar for a beer. First disappointment: No bottled or canned beer - only Tecate Light draft in a styrofoam cup. This is at 3:30 in the afternoon. I was told that there were "out". I understand why they don't want bottles around the pool and I would have been fine if they poured it into a cup or gave me a can. No dice - just somewhat cool draft on tap. As I watched from my pool chair, you could see that others would get canned or bottled beer, but only if they were paying (either european plan or time share owners). In fact, trying to get bottled/canned beer the entire week was like pulling teeth. It's like I was putting them out every time I asked and I was made to think that they were giving me special treatment if they obliged. Usually, after maybe 1 or two they would suddenly "run out" - then back to the draft. The one night I asked for a Dos Equis at the lobby lounge and was told that my "all inclusive" didn't cover that - they save it for the paying customers (from the time share side). I was only entitled to Pacifico or Corona (usually they didn't have Corona either). On the second day, we ended up going to Walmart and buying canned beer because our guts could not handle the draft. So there we sit on our "all inclusive" holiday, drinking beer we purchased at Wal Mart because the staff are too annoyed to give us bottled or canned beer by the pool. Nice. I seriously had to have a mini-confrontation every time I went to the bar in order to get it. Eventually, I just got tired of it and just stopped trying because I was sick of the confrontation everytime we went up to get a beer. This is just a small example but it speaks volumes about the resort. The same thing happened several times when I'd hear a customer ask for Bacon (there was none at the buffet). I don't even eat bacon but I found it comical to see that they regarded bacon at the same level as bottled beer. I had to laugh because I seen one guy ask for Bacon as I was waiting in line for my omelette. He was abruptly told that they didn't have any. Not 30 seconds later, a customer with a black bracelet (Eurpoean plan) walked up and asked for Bacon from the same lady at the omelette station and the she opened a container from under the counter and loaded up his plate. I almost laughed but then I realized how pathetic a resort must be to refuse their guests bacon at breakfast. These may seem like trivial examples but this is the heriarchy that we observed all week between the european plan and all inclusive customers. This included the room selection. We were placed in a room with two double beds upon check in. I called and reminded them that I had booked a King room but they said that they would not have any until the next day. No big deal, I wondered down the next morning and was abruptly put off another day. Same thing the following morning. By the morning of the 5th day - I just gave up. Obviously, the King rooms are saved for the "paying" customers. I was given every excuse under the sun.

Service: I will start by saying that we have been to all inclusive resorts in Mexico 6 times previous to this trip at everything from a 3 to a 5 star. We tip at least 1 or 2 USD per round, EVERY ROUND, mainly because we have found that this is the only way to get consistent service. We also tip 5-10 USD per meal service. In summary, the service at this hotel was terrible all the way around. They were not rude necessarily, but they made me feel like I was asking them a huge favor for doing their job. A couple times I got annoyed and stopped tipping but then I wouldn't see them again. The final "thanks for coming out" was when I got home and checked my Starwood Preferred Guest Customer account (Sheraton rewards program) approximately 10 days later. I seen that they had still not credited my SPG acccount for the 7 nights we stayed so I e-mailed the hotel directly to ask. I was told that we were not entitled to the SPG points because we did not book through Starwood (we booked through Transat), and that we didn't incur any incidentals on our room (like that would have anything to do with it). That's funny - they made a point of asking for my SPG card upon check in and placed me in a SPG room. It's also funny that I routinely book at Sheraton hotels in Canada for business using Hotwire, Expedia and other 3rd party web sites and have never been refused SPG points. The response from the hotel was indicitive of their level of service and the care they place on the guests of their facility. I shouldn't have expected any better.

Food: Buffet was OK. Breakfast was actually quite good (if you don't like Bacon..LOL) and lunch off the menu was average. Meals in the "Al-la-Carte" Restaurant was literally inedible. After eating there - we took a stroll down to the malecon and got a cheeseburger at McDonalds. I couldn't understand it - the restaurant itself looked very nice and it was empty. Staff were literally tripping over one another at this place. Once the food arrived - I seen why it was empty. It was unbelievable. We ended up eating out downtown almost every supper for the remainder of the week.

The trip has made my wife and I decide to never vacation in Mexico again - I'll spend my hard earned money in Arizona, Florida and Hawaii. We have seen the atmosphere in Mexico diminish steadily over the past 10 years in terms of customer service and the tourism industry. We are not hard to please and we came with low expectations, knowing that we had paid under a 1000 bucks each after tax for the week. Even at that price, the place was a disappointment. I would never return here, nor would I reccomend it to anyone else. If you are taking an air only flight down to PV and you wanted a reasonably priced hotel room for a couple nights, and planned to eat out all meals but breakfats, then this place would be OK. Do NOT book an All Inclusive vacation to this property or you will regret it.

One suggestion: Take a day trip to Sayulita - it is awesome!

Could not have had a better vacation at any other resort, this is our second time at Sheraton Puerto Vallarta and we will be back. The front desk is very professional, always smiling and very helpful.Hector the front desk manager goes out of his way to accomodate you, checked in with him and requested a different room that wasn't ready. He told us that it would be about 45 minutes. We went to the lobby bar for a cervesa where we were greeted by a smiling Mariza who quickly took our drink order and also came back with nacho chips and salsa.Hector himself came to tell us our room was ready within about 15 minutes.Room very clean and good size as well as a large sun-terrace that we enjoyed every evening at sunset.
The staff at this resort make it so enjoyable everyone always smiling and saying good morning, afternoon or evening from security guards to cleaners, pool workers dinning room staff everyone was fantastic and wish we could name them all in this review.
We did the all inclusive and the food is excellent from buffet and the 2 al carte restaurants. the buffet was only opened for breakfast and lunch Monday to Thursday as the hotel was slow so you could use al carte restaurants every evening again both excellent. You could also order off menu in the buffet when ever you wanted. All the waiters in buffet our very fast to serve you,Oliverio our waiter most days could not do enough for you, showing you to your table, chatting and joking with you and continuously checking to see if you needed anything else, in the mornings before buffet was opened I would go for coffee and Oliverio would see me and go straight to coffee pot for 2 coffees to go as he knew we enjoyed sitting on the ocean every morning.
Also I have to mention Lulu concierge at the Sheraton in the front lobby another one who goes out of her way to help everyone. Our plane was being delayed on an hourly basis and we were having trouble locating an Air Canada Rep. as they do not have one at the Sheraton.Lulu made some calls to other hotels and found a rep for us, got his phone number and called him, this took up a lot of Lulu's time. The internet had said the plane had left the gate but never taken off so there was a bit if confusion. We went to Hector and needed to keep our room after noon check out because of delays, Hector said keep room till 6 o'clock if you need to.
The pool is the largest that I have seen in Puerto Vallarta, never busy always lots of chairs available no matter what time you come to the pool.Candido, Luis and Angelica at the pool bar where always checking to see if you needed drinks or something from the restaurant.
The grounds are huge and spotless every where you look someone is cleaning. The internet worked great never had an issue with it,in room, pool or lobby very quick and used it at different times of the day.
Back in the snow now and trying to lose the 12 pounds I put on while at the Sheraton. Will be returning next year. Thanks all at the Sheraton you gave us a great vacation.
