We stayed at the Sherton for 5 days in January. We were there with a large group of around 100 people. We had to stay at the Sheraton because the hotel we were booked at sold our rooms and we found that out the day before we flew out. We had a travel agent that came with us on our trip and thank god she came with us!
She took care of all our problems or she at least tried her best.
First off, our air conditioner did not work in our room for the 1st 2 nights. My husband pulled the filter out of the grill and it was so dirty. The comforters on the bed had a fowl smell, but the bed was soft and that is unusual for mexico. Our room had a balcony with 2 chairs on it, which was nice. THe maid service was not very good. We had to call 2 nights in a row for wash rags for us to bath.

The food was not bad, my husband is a very picky eater and he enjoyed all his meals.

The beach was a disappointment, it was full of rocks and vendors, trying to sale you stuff. You dont go to the Sheraton if you like to lay on the beach.
We attended the Mexican Fiesta there at the hotel and that was fun.
We went on the Canapy Tour and did the Outdoor Challenge, and we loved them both. The Outdoor Chanllenge is just wonderful.
All in all this hotel needs some updates but it is average, i have stayed in better hotels in Mexico.

The Sheraton is in a great location as it is the closest full service resort to down town and a relatively easy walk to get there. Upon check-in we were given two double bed rooms instead of the king rooms we had reserved and paid for months in advance. After much discussion and several visits to the front desk we were moved to a king room after one night for the rest of our stay. There was a large business meeting at the resort and apparently all the rooms were full. The rooms themselves were average. They were large enough with wonderful views but no balconies on the “Resort” rooms. Also there is no coffee maker in the room so you are forced to trek downstairs to buy lousy hotel coffee from the restaurant if you are in need.

The common areas, pool and beach are very nice. Two huge pool areas – one on the hotel side and one on the time share side. There were a couple restaurants on site but we didn’t eat there except some chips and salsa by the pool.

When we checked in we were greeted by the “guest services” rep and I was ready for the timeshare pitch. He showed us a map of the property and of Puerto Vallarta and asked if were interested in any activities. Once we informed him that we had already reserved a whale watching tour and a canopy tour in advance, he didn’t even ask us about doing a timeshare tour and we weren’t approached for timeshare at all while at the Sheraton. The rest of our stay we used the actual hotel concierge and they were helpful with dinner reservations, maps and other questions. The front desk staff was hit or miss. Some were friendly and helpful while others were rude. When we checked in there was a problem with the in room safe. After calling maintenance man appeared almost immediately and fixed the problem. However, on the last day we were left with one towel after the maids had cleaned. Two calls to request more towels were in vain as none were brought to the room.

Overall this resort rates as average to above average. The location and the common areas are excellent, the rooms average and the service was below average.

After a two month search, we selected the Sheraton in PV to have our wedding at in Nov '05. A lot of the planning was done with their US office, which was very helpful! They also gave us lists of vendors to assist us with all our wedding planes. Through the Sheraton, we located an AMAZING wedding planning trio that we will forever be thankful for.

A couple months before the wedding, I began reading different visitor reviews and my stomach began to turn into knots. When we read 50% bad reviews - we started to believe it!

My husband and I have traveled ALL OVER the world and we are very happy people - so maybe we are more open minded than most.

BUT, we had nearly 85 people from all around the US fly in and stay at the Sheraton and had the BEST time. Hanging out by the pool, walking along the beach, taking the cab, bus or walking downtown and just being tourists - - we had a wonderful time.

The hotel was very nice and the people were very helpful. When you go, remember that you speak English and they speak primarily Spanish. You would think this is obvious being that PV is in another country - - but when you read the reviews about Mexico you really do wonder how people are shocked by this :)

The reason for my review: if there is one bride out there having a wedding at the Sheraton and starts reading all those negative reviews - I want her to read this and realize for every complaint posted, there are at least 2,000 happy stories that never get posted about the Sheraton. SO DON'T GET NERVOUS!

We can't wait to go back! It was the best start to our new life together!

We had a great 5-day stay at the Sheraton a week ago. We arrived at 2 p.m. and they did not have a room with a king-size bed available yet (which is understandable as check in time is not until 4 p.m.) The offered us a double bed room immediately, but we waited around until 4 for the king. While waiting we had lunch at the restaurant and sat out by the beach. We had a few meals from the restaurant and they were all decent and the service was friendly. We didn't get a chance to check out the Sunday brunch, but I heard from several people that it was great.
Our room was clean and everything was in working order. The bellman brought our luggage up and unlocked the mini bar. We had a great view of the pool and ocean from our windows. Housekeeping came by everyday and did a great job.
The pool areas were great. We spent everyday by the "loud" pool. It was less crowded than the "quiet" pool and my husband and I enjoyed the activities. He made several buddies playing volleyball. Service from the pool bars was good (I would avoid the drink made from a hollowed out coconut - it looks cool, but it doesn't taste that great!) and prices were reasonable (compared to Chicago bars).

All of the staff of the hotel were very helpful and pleasant (it may have helped that we attempted to speak Spanish most of the time). My husband left our camera in the cab on the way back to the airport and he called the hotel before we had to leave on our flight (we were told at the airport that the same cabs return to the same hotels all the time). The bellman he spoke to said he would notify all the cabs and be on the lookout for it. It never did get found, but they were at least interested in helping. We also were gladly given a late check out at 2:00 as our plane didn't leave PV until 4:00. We did have to get our key reactivated since they automatically disable it at noon.

Yes, you do have to avoid timeshare people here. The "guest services" desk is where they are located and they will approach you shortly after you arrive. Just tell them you aren't interested (it helps if you have already booked tours before you get there, since this is how they hook you). Just tell them you aren't interested and then don't make eye contact with them the rest of your trip (since you have to pass their desk several times a day).

We loved the location and probably wouldn't stay very much further north of there if we returned. You can walk to downtown, or if you don't feel like doing that the most expensive cab ride we ever had to go downtown was $5. Overall we had a good time at the Sheraton and would consider staying there again.

This is definitely one to avoid at all cost. The service is terrible, rude, lazy - the property is old, worn, and terrible. The front desk staff is so disinterested and lazy, it is ridiculous. Mind you, their published rates are 250-300 USD per night - if you get a good deal you could get a room for 170 - and believe me - it will be the WORST 170 dollar hotel you will ever stay in. At 200+ it is A RIP OFF - we asked for extra towels - for example - and were rudely informed, that we already had 3 towles in the room and that was it. The rooms and furniture are the pits - 7 foot ceilings, old dirty furniture, dirty and stained sheets (it looks like someone decorated this place 20 years ago and they haven't changed anything since). The housekeeping staff (and the lady that runs it) are absolutely insultingly rude. I could go on and on and on. Just read other peoples reviews (I should have done the same before trying this place)! Do yourself a favor and look for another hotel in PV. AND if you think just because you are a Starwood Preffered Guest, you are going to get a better deal - think again. We got "upgraded" to the SPG floor - it is just as BAD as the rest of the rooms - and of course the service is just as rude and lazy.
